University of Hamburg Programs, Campus and Residence

  • University of Hamburg offers more than 170 degree programs and the students can choose from degree type including bachelor's, master's (including English language programs) and teaching degrees.
  • There is also a 15 storey-building called Phil-Turm that provides a great view of the city. The students will get best facilities such as Bank, medical center, stationery, book store etc inside the campus.
  • Studierendenwerk Hamburg presently offers 23 housing facilities to 4,000 inhabitants. All rooms are furnished and rent for your stay including utilities is EUR 230.

University of Hamburg Admission Process

  • Application Portal: Application can be made through both online and offline mode. As per the University Admission Act (HZG), admissions for first-year students are subject to quotas and the foreign-student quota is 10%.
  • Application deadline: For winter semesters the dates are June 1 to July 15 and February 15 to March 31 for international master's programs. Summer semester the deadline is December 1 to January 15.
  • General requirements: The main and most important requirement for admission to Universität Hamburg is the Abitur (German secondary school leaving certificate) or other proof of higher education entrance eligibility.
  • Additional requirements: Birth certificate, passport copy, insurance documentation, valid student Visa.
  • English Proficiency Test: Minimum English test scores required for admission are given below:

University of Hamburg Cost of Attendance

Being a public university, it charges no tuition fee . However, the Students have to pay a sum of approximately 300 Euro as a semester contribution that gives them free access to public transport throughout the year.

The semester contribution for the 2019 summer semester is 328 Euro and you have to pay the semester contribution even if you are on academic leave.

Those students who have enrolled in a special program, with the exception of those in the Europa-Kolleg, have to pay an amount of 278 Euro only.

The average monthly cost of living is 300–500 Euro.

University of Hamburg Scholarships

The International students at the HAW Hamburg can apply for scholarships for academic merit and for the final semester thesis.

Bachelor scholarships

As per this scholarship scheme, the Bachelor students may avail scholarships up to 1, 800 Euro per semester. An application for a further two semesters is possible.

Master scholarships

The HAW Hamburg gives scholarships for academic merit to its international Master students. Scholarship worth 1,800 Euro per semester is grated to the students.

Degree Completion Grants

The amount of the financial aid given is on the basic of the financial situation of the applicant. The maximum amount that can be given is 735 Euro per month.
