Technical University Ilmenau Scholarships: Frequently Asked Questions
Ques. What is the maximum scholarship stack for Indian Master’s applicants at TU Ilmenau?
Ans. The realistic monthly ceiling is roughly EUR 934 (INR 91,999) plus tuition at zero. DAAD EPOS forbids running any parallel merit award, so Deutschlandstipendium and EPOS cannot legally stack in the same month. Sequential use works: Deutschlandstipendium of EUR 300 during coursework, then EPOS during thesis with STIBET emergency aid as a one-off cushion.
Ques. When do Technical University Ilmenau scholarship applications open?
Ans. Deutschlandstipendium at the university opens tentatively in May 2027 for the 2027-28 academic year. STIBET I and Emergency Fund submissions stay rolling through the year. External DAAD EPOS closes tentatively on August 31, 2026, so working professionals from India should target the following annual cycle in mid-2027.
Ques. Does Deutschlandstipendium apply automatically or need a separate application?
Ans. Deutschlandstipendium requires a separate submission via the university portal each year, not the admissions form. You upload transcripts, a one-page motivation letter, evidence of extracurricular engagement and one professor’s recommendation. The department shortlists first, and private donors sign off in a second review round.
Ques. What academic threshold do Indian applicants need to win Deutschlandstipendium?
Ans. An Indian Bachelor’s aggregate of 85% or a GPA of 8.5 on 10 is the typical shortlist floor. This maps to a German scale grade of 1.5 or better. Selectors still value civic work, hackathon prizes, teaching experience or a strong personal narrative alongside grades.
Ques. Does the EUR 300 Deutschlandstipendium cover living costs in Ilmenau?
Ans. Yes for basic rent, no for the full monthly budget. A room in the state Studentenwerk (student services) residence halls costs EUR 210 to EUR 280 monthly (INR 20,685 to INR 27,580). Groceries, transport and insurance push the real need to EUR 800 to EUR 950. Most Indian scholars stack a HiWi (student research assistant) job of EUR 12 per hour to close the gap.

- The university have a wide variety of research and masters courses, there are also few of them in English too. The overall syllabus for each courses is very well structured. Exam patterns analyze students critical thinking, problem solving, perception, etc.. these are the few things I like about the university

- English taught programmes are very less, so the choice of selection will be less for those who understand only English, Even though there are lots of programmes for study , job opportunity/research opportunity for some courses after graduation are not very shiny.
University experience in abroad was unique and I really enjoyed it , There are lots of opportunities to find your talent and nourish it.

- To be honest, I filtered some Universities for me and applied to all of them, I didn't receive replies from all but I got accepted at TUI which was also unbelievable for me as it was a Technical university and it has more importance in regards if one wants a career in Research.
- As I got an admission to the university, it was covid period. The classes were online. Still, teachers supported very well in all aspects, we used to have presentations, projects, research papers and reports. So, study was not compromised at all.

- I didn't find anything as such, that I did not like about Technical University of Ilmenau. Also, I am aware that students are concerned about Racism, but personally I never experienced such things. And still if any student does face it, then there are organizations in the university where it can be reported.
It was awesome as I learned a lot there. Especially living alone and managing everything. University went very well and I did participate in various events, exhibitions and parties too.
