Technische Universität Berlin Admission 2027

Technische Universität Berlin runs two intakes each year: Winter semester (October start, the primary intake with all programmes open) and Summer semester (April start, offered by selected masters). International applicants apply through the uni-assist portal for both credential preliminary review and final placement.

Technische Universität Berlin PG Admission Dates 2027

PG applications for Summer 2027 close in mid-January 2027; the Winter 2027 cycle uses a two-tier close depending on whether the programme is under restricted (NC) or unrestricted admission.

MilestoneDateNotes for Indian Applicants
Summer 2027 international application deadline (all master’s)Expected 15 January 2027 (based on prior cycle)Applies to the limited list of programmes that accept summer starts
Winter 2027 international deadline, restricted (NC) master’sExpected 15 April 2027 (based on prior cycle)Includes most engineering and CS masters
Winter 2027 international deadline, unrestricted master’sExpected 15 July 2027 (based on prior cycle)Includes several MS programmes with no NC cap
Uni-assist credential verification (VPD) lead timeSubmit 6 to 8 weeks before deadlineIndian bachelor’s degrees need VPD; allow enough time
Winter 2027 programme startOctober 2027Enrolment and orientation in the first week of October

Planning note: Uni-assist is the single biggest source of delay for Indian applicants; certified translations of Class 12 marksheets, bachelor’s transcripts and degree certificates should be posted at least eight weeks before the programme deadline so the Vorprüfungsdokumentation (VPD) reaches TU Berlin on time.

Technische Universität Berlin Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Technische Universität Berlin holds Indian applicants to the same academic standards as EU applicants, with subject-fit and language proficiency as the two decisive filters.

PG Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree: Four-year Indian bachelor with 55% or CGPA 5.5/10 (recommended) in a directly related subject; three-year bachelors are accepted only with strong subject fit and top marks
  • English test: TOEFL iBT or IELTS score set per programme; verify on the TU Berlin programme page
  • German test (German-taught programmes): TestDaF 4 in each section or DSH-2
  • Credential verification: APS certificate from the German Embassy in Delhi and a uni-assist VPD are both mandatory for Indian applicants

UG Requirements

  • Class 12: CBSE, ISC or state board with 70% to 85% (recommended); direct entry needs a 1-year Studienkolleg-free equivalent qualification
  • Language: TestDaF 4 or DSH-2 (all undergraduate teaching is in German)
  • APS certificate: Compulsory; process takes 8 to 10 weeks after document submission

Key insight: The APS certificate is non-negotiable, and slots at the German Embassy in Delhi book out three to four months in advance during peak Indian application windows; Indian students who miss the APS booking window are the most common cause of Winter deadline drop-offs at Technische Universität Berlin.

Technische Universität Berlin Acceptance Rate 2027

Technische Universität Berlin does not publish a single acceptance rate; independent estimates place the overall selection rate at 20% to 30% (estimated), tighter for restricted (NC) engineering and CS master’s and slightly looser for unrestricted programmes with subject-fit gates.

Selection for master’s runs on subject fit first (does the Indian bachelor cover the required ECTS in core areas), then academic score, then language. Restricted programmes such as MS Computer Science and MS Industrial Engineering and Management are the most competitive for Indian applicants; unrestricted programmes still reject candidates whose bachelor’s credit map falls short.

Reality check: A 55% bachelor from a lesser-known Indian institute with the right subject fit stands a stronger chance than a 75% bachelor from a top Indian institute in an unrelated discipline; TU Berlin weights the ECTS credit match above the raw score.

TU Berlin Fees and Cost of Living for Indian Students 2027

Total annual outlay for an Indian master’s student at TU Berlin sits at EUR 12,720 to EUR 18,720 (INR 12.2 lakh to INR 18.0 lakh) per year, driven almost entirely by living costs since regular programmes carry no tuition.

TU Berlin Semester Contribution for Indian Students 2027

The semester contribution of EUR 360.49 is payable each term at enrolment and re-registration, and covers the AB-Ticket (public transport across Berlin zones A and B), student union fees and administrative charges.

Programme LevelSemester Contribution (EUR)Total Programme (INR lakh)
Bachelor’s (3 years, 6 semesters)EUR 360.49/semester2.08 lakh

Technische Universität Berlin Campus, Facilities and Student Life

Technische Universität Berlin sits on a central campus in Charlottenburg, on Strasse des 17. Juni, with satellite sites for architecture, naval engineering and TU Campus El Gouna in Egypt.

  • Location and transport: Main campus at Ernst-Reuter-Platz on the U2 U-Bahn line, 15 minutes from Berlin Hauptbahnhof; students use the AB-Ticket bundled with semester contribution
  • Housing: Studierendenwerk Berlin runs 30+ halls across the city with rent from EUR 250 to 550 per month; no international-student housing guarantee, apply immediately on offer
  • Notable facility: Volkswagen library, jointly with UdK Berlin, is one of the largest research libraries in the German-speaking world with 24-hour reading rooms during exams
  • Indian community: Active Indian Students Association at TU Berlin, regular Diwali and Holi meetups, plus an on-campus prayer room

What Indian students say: German language classes at the ZEMS in-house school are heavily oversubscribed and Indian students recommend registering in the first week of the semester; the Mensa lunch at EUR 2 to 4 is a genuine budget saver, and the campus radio and maker-space clubs are the fastest way into the German student network.

Technische Universität Berlin Scholarships 2027

Technische Universität Berlin does not fund a dedicated in-house tuition scholarship (there is no tuition to waive), but Indian students access three routes: the university-administered Deutschlandstipendium, national funders such as DAAD, and department-level research assistantships (HiWi contracts).

ScholarshipTypeAward ValueEligibilityDeadline

HiWi (Studentische Hilfskraft) contractsWork-studyEUR 13.98/hour, 40 to 80 hours/monthEnrolled master’s students; department-driven hiringRolling, posted on department boards

Planning note: The DAAD Study Scholarship is the single most useful lever for Indian students because the EUR 992 monthly stipend clears the blocked-account requirement outright, but the shortlist rate is low; students who miss it should apply for the Deutschlandstipendium in the first semester after arrival, where the internal success rate is materially higher.

Technische Universität Berlin Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

Technische Universität Berlin does not run centralised campus placements in the Indian sense; graduate hiring runs through the Career Service, department networks, industry-funded chairs and the TU Berlin start-up ecosystem.

  • Employment outcome: German engineering master’s graduates report 90%+ employment within six months of completion (Federal Employment Agency market data; TU Berlin does not publish an institution-specific rate)
  • Median starting salary (MS engineering): EUR 55,000 (INR 52.8 lakh) per year, rising to EUR 65,000 to 75,000 with two years’ experience (Stepstone Germany market median)
  • Executive MBA outcome: Median post-MBA salary EUR 90,000 (INR 86.4 lakh) per year (BCDT market median, executive cohorts)
  • Recruiting sectors: Automotive and mobility, energy and utilities, industrial software, semiconductors, urban planning and consulting; representative employers include Bosch, Siemens, Volkswagen, SAP, Zalando, Deutsche Bahn
  • Career support: TU Berlin Career Service runs on-campus career fairs each semester, CV clinics in English, and a start-up incubator that has spun out 500+ ventures since 1983

Insider note: Indian graduates report that the toughest hiring gate is not the master’s grade but German language at B2 for non-engineering business roles; MS Computer Science, MS Data Engineering and MS Electrical Engineering graduates place strongly with English-only firms in Berlin, while MS Industrial Engineering and MS Architecture roles typically require German B2 or higher.

Technische Universität Berlin vs Peer Universities

The most useful peer set for Indian applicants weighing Technische Universität Berlin is the other TU9 members plus one aspirational Indian option. All are public, all charge no tuition and all rank inside the QS top 200.

UniversityQS World Rank 2027Collegedunia Study AbroadAvg PG Contribution (EUR / INR lakh)Differentiator
Technical University of Munich#22NAEUR 4,000/semester non-EU (INR 3.84 lakh)Highest-ranked German technical university; charges non-EU tuition

KIT Karlsruhe#106NAEUR 1,800/semester non-EU (INR 1.73 lakh)Only combined technical university and Helmholtz research centre; charges non-EU tuition
IIT Bombay#134NAINR 3 lakh/yearIndian benchmark; INR salaries but home-market network

Technische Universität Berlin stands out because Berlin (Zone A and B) is the only German capital city in the TU9 set and the tech and start-up density is closest to what MS Computer Science and MS Data Engineering graduates need for post-study placement. Its Architecture and Chemical Engineering subject ranks also outperform the university’s overall QS position.

Technische Universität Berlin is the right fit for an Indian applicant with a strong subject-matched bachelor, an APS certificate in hand and a total spend budget of INR 25 lakh across two years, offset against a median engineering starting salary of INR 52.8 lakh per year and the 18-month Job Seeker visa. The QS #158 rank plus #24 global position in Architecture give it a stronger research profile than the overall ranking suggests.

It is not the right fit for candidates without B2 German who want a fully English-taught MS, since the English catalogue skews narrow; TUM in Munich has a broader English MS catalogue and a stronger overall QS position, though it now charges non-EU tuition.

Technische Universität Berlin FAQs

Ques. Which master’s programmes at TU Berlin are taught fully in English?

Ans. TU Berlin runs over 20 international master’s programmes taught fully in English, including MS Computer Science, MS Biotechnology, MS Urban Management, MS Global Production Engineering, MS ICT Innovation and MS Sustainable Energy Systems. Several dual-degree Erasmus Mundus and EIT Digital tracks are also English-medium. Programmes marked German or bilingual on the TU Berlin course catalogue require a TestDaF 4 or DSH-2 certificate at application, so Indian students with no German should filter the catalogue by teaching language before shortlisting.

Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at Technische Universität Berlin?

Ans. Yes, Indian students on a German student visa may work up to 140 full days or 280 half days per calendar year, roughly 20 hours a week during term and full-time during breaks. On-campus HiWi (Studentische Hilfskraft) contracts at TU Berlin pay EUR 13.98 per hour for 40 to 80 hours a month, and are the most academically relevant part-time route. Off-campus roles in Berlin’s tech and hospitality sectors are common but require basic German for most customer-facing shifts.

Ques. Is a GRE or GMAT score required for TU Berlin master’s admission?

Ans. No, Technische Universität Berlin does not require a GRE score for engineering or computer science master’s programmes and does not require GMAT for the standard MSc suite. The only exception is the Executive MBA at BCDT, where GMAT is recommended but not mandatory if the applicant has three or more years of relevant work experience. Selection weights subject-fit, ECTS credit mapping, bachelor’s percentage and the APS interview far more than standardised test scores.

Ques. How does the APS certificate process work for Indian applicants to TU Berlin?

Ans. Every Indian applicant to a German university must hold an APS certificate issued by the German Embassy Academic Evaluation Centre in Delhi. The process takes eight to ten weeks and involves document submission, a fee of INR 18,000 and an in-person or online interview for master’s applicants covering academic background and choice of programme. TU Berlin will not process an application without a valid APS certificate uploaded to uni-assist, so students should book the APS slot before finalising the university shortlist.

Ques. Does Technische Universität Berlin waive IELTS for Indian applicants from English-medium bachelor’s?

Ans. Individual programme boards at TU Berlin may waive IELTS or TOEFL if the applicant submits an official letter from the previous university confirming that the entire bachelor’s degree, including examinations, was conducted in English. The letter must be on university letterhead, signed by the Registrar or Controller of Examinations, and uploaded with the uni-assist application. Waiver is programme-specific and not guaranteed; MS Computer Science and MS Biotechnology have historically been more open to the waiver than MS Urban Management.

Ques. What is the education loan option for TU Berlin from Indian banks?

Ans. Indian public-sector banks including SBI, Bank of Baroda and Canara Bank sanction education loans of up to INR 30 lakh for TU Berlin without collateral, and up to INR 1.5 crore with collateral, under their study-abroad schemes. Private lenders such as HDFC Credila, Avanse, Auxilo and Prodigy Finance also recognise Technische Universität Berlin because it sits inside the QS top 200. Loans typically cover the blocked account, semester contribution, living expenses and one-way airfare, disbursed against the admission letter.

Ques. Are dependents allowed on a German student visa for TU Berlin?

Ans. Spouses of Indian students at Technische Universität Berlin can apply for a family reunion visa once the student has a valid residence permit, secure accommodation in Berlin and proof of sufficient funds (an additional EUR 6,024 per year in the blocked account for the spouse and EUR 4,464 per child for 2026 rates). Children under 18 are covered by the same reunion route. Spouses may work full-time on the reunion visa without additional restrictions once registered in Berlin.

Ques. How long does the post-study Job Seeker visa last after graduating from TU Berlin?

Ans. Graduates of Technische Universität Berlin qualify for the 18-month post-study Job Seeker residence permit under Germany’s Aufenthaltsgesetz, applied for at the Berlin Ausländerbehörde within the last semester of study. During the 18 months, Indian graduates may take any job (skilled or unskilled) while searching for a role matching the master’s degree. Once a qualifying offer is signed, applicants switch to the EU Blue Card at an annual salary threshold of EUR 45,300 for 2026, or the standard skilled worker permit for lower salaries.

Overview

I didn't go to any consultant. In fact, you don't really need any external help other than students who have studied previously. Connect with them on LinkedIn or other sites and ask them about their experience through the process. Initially, you need to present a strong SOP (Statement of purpose) highlighting your interest and passion for the field. You need one year of work/intern experience. Having 1-2 months short wouldn't make a difference. You need a decent IELTS score, above 6-6.5 should do. And then after the first round is cleared you will have an Interview round. This round is easy, they just ask more questions about your previous work and experience. And it follows up with what you expect from the course or what your future plans are.

Campus Life

I think the campus life at the university is great. They have a sports program providing sports activities at a very cheap rate. They have canteens for everyone that provided food at a very cheap rate even to vegan students. I have found many of my countrymen, Indians on campus and in class. However, the university is more diverse than my class. TU Berlin has opportunities for everyone in every field. As a student of TU Berlin, you can study a course at any university in Germany and get credits for that. The library is vast with several computers one can lend up to 50 books at a time. There are several societies one can be part of. One can join Facebook and WhatsApp groups and connect with more people. There are many conferences and seminars happening simultaneously where one can interact and meet people.

Overview

I prepared on my own. I referred to the documents required in which the major requirement was letter of motivation. I researched a bit on how to write the letter and then implemented my reason for choosing the course and university.

A lot of event take place for free of cost and some paid events. All information is shared in your student email id registered with the university
