University of Kassel UG Fees for Indian Students 2027
Bachelor’s programmes at Uni Kassel are largely taught in German, so Indian UG applicants typically complete a Studienkolleg foundation year and clear the DSH-2 language exam before admission.
| Programme | Language | Entry Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| BSc Mechanical Engineering | German | Class 12 with 70% to 85% (recommended); DSH-2 |
| BSc Electrical Engineering | German | Class 12 with 70% to 85% (recommended); DSH-2 |
| BSc Computer Science | German | Class 12 with 70% to 85% (recommended); DSH-2 |
| BA Business Studies | German | Class 12 with 65% (recommended); DSH-2 |
| BSc Nanostructure Sciences | German | Class 12 with 70% (recommended); DSH-2 |
Insider note: Indian students overwhelmingly cluster in the four English-taught engineering masters. German-taught bachelors get few Indian applicants because the Studienkolleg year adds cost and time.

University of Kassel Admission 2027
Uni Kassel admissions run two intakes per year, with Winter (October start) as the primary intake carrying the widest programme choice for Indian applicants. Applications from international candidates are routed through Uni-Assist for credential verification.
| Milestone | Date | Notes for Indian Applicants |
|---|---|---|
| Summer 2027 intake application deadline | 15 January 2027 | Limited programme choice; open master's mostly in social sciences |
| Summer 2027 semester start | April 2027 | Orientation runs the first two weeks |
| Winter 2027/28 intake application deadline | 15 July 2027 | Primary intake; all English-taught engineering masters open |
| APS certification lead time | Start 8 to 12 weeks before deadline | Mandatory for Indian applicants; issued by German Embassy in New Delhi |
| Winter 2027/28 semester start | October 2027 | Orientation and language courses precede lectures |

Planning note: Start the APS process at least three months before Uni-Assist submission. Indian transcripts routinely take 6 to 8 weeks to verify, and a missed APS window pushes the whole application to the next intake.
University of Kassel Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
The single most important admission requirement for Indian applicants is a recognised bachelor’s degree plus an APS certificate before Uni-Assist submission.
PG Requirements
- Academic: 4-year Indian bachelor’s with 55% aggregate or CGPA 5.5/10 (recommended); some engineering masters require 60%
- English: IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL iBT 72 (minimum); IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 80 for competitive masters like Functional Safety Engineering
- Credential Verification: APS certificate mandatory; Uni-Assist submission for degree recognition
- Language for German programmes: DSH-2 or TestDaF 4
UG Requirements
- Academic: Class 12 with 70% to 85% (recommended); most Indian applicants must complete a one-year Studienkolleg
- Language: DSH-2 or TestDaF 4 for German-taught bachelors; APS certificate mandatory
Key insight: Uni Kassel does not require GRE for any master’s programme. The IELTS waiver applies only to Indian applicants whose bachelor’s was fully taught in English, and requires a signed medium-of-instruction letter from the home university.
University of Kassel Acceptance Rate 2027
Uni Kassel does not publish an official acceptance rate. Third-party admissions data places overall admissions at 80% to 90% (estimated), which is consistent with German public universities that admit based on documented eligibility rather than competitive selection. Reliability of the estimate is moderate since the university itself does not disclose year-on-year admit-rate figures.
English-taught engineering masters are the exception: Electrical Communication Engineering and Functional Safety Engineering see stronger competition among Indian applicants, and admits typically cluster in the 55% to 65% CGPA range.
Reality check: A high headline admit rate does not mean easy entry for Indian applicants. Uni-Assist credential rejection, APS delays and missing English proof account for most Indian rejections, not academic competition.

Students' Review on Reddit: Learning German before arriving is repeatedly suggested as making daily life much easier, even in English-taught programs, and checking course modules carefully before enrolling to make sure they match your career goals.
University of Kassel Scholarships 2027
Uni Kassel itself offers limited direct scholarships. Indian students mostly rely on German federal schemes (Deutschlandstipendium, DAAD) and political-foundation scholarships. Four confirmed funding routes are open to master’s applicants.
| Scholarship | Type | Award Value | Eligibility | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Deutschlandstipendium | Merit-based partial | EUR 300/month (INR 33,081/month) | Enrolled bachelor's or master's students with strong academics | Rolling, per faculty |

University of Kassel Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
Uni Kassel does not run centralised placement drives in the Indian sense. Career outcomes for Indian graduates come through the Career Service, professor referrals, HiWi networks and the 18-month post-study job-seeker visa.
- Employment within 6 months of graduation: Not officially disclosed by the university
- Median starting salary (MS Engineering): EUR 48,000 to 55,000 per year (INR 52.9 to 60.6 lakh, market median for German engineering masters)
- Top hiring sectors: Automotive engineering, renewable energy, industrial automation, IT services
- Representative employers: Volkswagen, Bosch, SMA Solar Technology (Kassel HQ), Wintershall Dea (labelled sectors; recruiter lists not officially disclosed)
- Post-study visa: 18-month job-seeker visa post-graduation; convertible to EU Blue Card at EUR 45,300 salary threshold
Insider note: Indian engineering graduates report that a B1 or B2 German certificate opens roughly 3x more interview calls than English-only profiles, even at English-workspace employers.
University of Kassel vs Peer Universities
Peer set below covers German public universities with English-taught master's at a comparable cost basis and Indian applicant volume.
| University | QS World Rank 2027 | Avg PG Fee (EUR) | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|
| University of Kassel | #1201-1400 | EUR 409.27 ( INR 45,164) per semester | Strong in agricultural sciences and renewable energy |
| TU Darmstadt | #250 | EUR 391 per semester (INR 0.43 lakh) per semester | Top German TU for engineering and computer science |
| University of Göttingen | #261 | EUR 484.18 (INR 53,315) per semester | Traditional research university strong in natural sciences |
University of Kassel stands out for two reasons that matter to Indian applicants: it remains tuition-free even for non-EU students (unlike Baden-Württemberg universities), and its Renewable Energy and Sustainable Agriculture concentrations align with fast-growing global sectors.
Uni Kassel fits Indian engineering graduates with a bachelor’s above 55% who want a research-oriented master's at a total two-year cost under INR 20 lakh, financed by savings plus HiWi income. The ROI is straightforward: an INR 19 lakh living-cost investment against a median starting salary of INR 53 to 61 lakh, unlocked by Germany’s 18-month post-study visa route.
It is not the right fit for applicants targeting a top-200 global QS rank or an English-immersion social life without any German study. Applicants prioritising ranking should look at TU Darmstadt for engineering or the University of Göttingen for pure sciences.
University of Kassel FAQs
Ques. Does University of Kassel require GRE for its masters programmes?
Ans. No. Uni Kassel does not require the GRE for any masters programme, including MS Electrical Communication Engineering, MS Functional Safety Engineering or MSc Computer Science. Indian applicants only submit their bachelor’s transcripts, APS certificate and an English test (IELTS 5.5 to 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 72 to 80). Removing GRE from the checklist saves roughly INR 20,000 in test costs and 3 to 4 months of prep time, which is a genuine advantage over US-bound applicants.
Ques. How many hours can Indian students work part-time at Uni Kassel?
Ans. Indian students on a German study visa can work 140 full days or 280 half days per calendar year, or up to 20 hours per week during the semester. HiWi (research assistant) roles at Uni Kassel pay EUR 14.20 per hour (INR 1,566), which covers a large share of monthly living costs. Semester-break work is unrestricted in hours. Students must not exceed the annual cap or their study visa can be affected.
Ques. Can Indian students get an IELTS waiver at Uni Kassel?
Ans. Yes, in limited cases. Uni Kassel accepts an IELTS waiver if the applicant’s bachelor’s degree was fully taught in English and is backed by an official Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter from the awarding university, printed on letterhead and signed by the registrar. The waiver is not automatic; the international office decides case by case. Applicants from ICSE or CBSE Class 12 English-medium schools without an English-medium bachelor’s are not eligible.
Ques. What is the APS certificate and when should Indian applicants apply?
Ans. The APS (Akademische Prüfstelle) certificate verifies that Indian academic qualifications are genuine and meet German admission standards. Every Indian applicant to a German university must submit it. Apply at the German Embassy in New Delhi at least 8 to 12 weeks before the Uni-Assist deadline, since processing takes 4 to 6 weeks and interview slots book out.
Ques. How do Indian students find accommodation in Kassel before arrival?
Ans. Register for Studierendenwerk Kassel dormitory waitlists immediately after receiving the admission letter; the waitlist runs 6 to 12 months and priority goes by application date. Meanwhile, book a first-month WG (shared flat) through wg-gesucht.de or the Indian Student Association WhatsApp groups. Temporary hostels near Holländischer Platz cost EUR 40 to 60 per night for arrival week. Never wire an advance deposit before signing a written contract.

Overview
For masters, I chose Universiteit Gent, Belgium because I had a strong motivation to work for the development of rural areas in India. This University offers one of the best rural development programs in the world. After completing my master's degree, I worked through different national and international development research organizations in India. That helped me to acquire some advanced skills in research and motivated me to pursue Ph.D. if I want to make my career in research. One day, I found a vacancy offered by Universität Kassel, Germany for a doctoral researcher on the effect of urbanization on the peri-urban area of Bengaluru city. This position attracted my attention to apply and by god's grace, they selected me for this position.
Fees
During my master's, it was 8000 euros per year. For Ph.D. its 300 euros per semester.
