University of Siegen Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
The core Uni Siegen admission requirement for Indian applicants is an APS-verified bachelor’s degree in a related field, plus proof of English or German proficiency.
Masters Requirements at Uni Siegen 2027
- Academic: Bachelor’s with 60% or CGPA 6.0/10 (recommended); engineering masters require a first-degree in a cognate discipline
- English test (English-taught masters): IELTS 6.0 (no band under 5.5) or TOEFL iBT 80 or PTE 55; DSH or TestDaF is not required for English programmes
- APS certificate: Mandatory Akademische Prüfstelle verification of academic documents, issued by the German Embassy in New Delhi
- Additional: Some engineering masters may request GRE 300 (recommended) though not mandatory
Bachelor Requirements at Uni Siegen 2027
- Academic: Class 12 with 80% (recommended); Indian applicants with only Class 12 must complete Studienkolleg in Germany
- German test: DSH-2 or TestDaF-4 (score 4 in all four sub-tests)
- APS certificate: Mandatory before online application
Key insight: Uni Siegen accepts IELTS Indicator for English-taught masters, which lets Indian applicants sit the test at home without booking a test centre appointment.
University of Siegen Acceptance Rate 2027
University of Siegen does not publish an official acceptance rate. Based on programme-level admission data, the university’s overall acceptance rate sits at 60-70% (estimated). German public universities in mid-tier regions like North Rhine-Westphalia typically operate open-admission for non-restricted programmes and NC-limited entry for high-demand fields.
Selection is largely programme-driven: unrestricted masters (open zulassungsfrei) admit any qualified applicant, while restricted engineering and business masters use bachelor GPA cutoffs. Indian applicants meeting the recommended academic and language thresholds face a strong probability of admission.
Reality check: The high estimated acceptance rate at Uni Siegen does not translate to easy admission; APS verification and Uni-Assist document screening remove roughly a third of Indian applicants before the university sees the file.

| Ranking Body | Latest Edition | Previous Edition | Two Editions Back |
|---|---|---|---|
| QS World | 2027: #1201-1400 | 2026: #1201-1400 | 2025: #1001-1200 |
| THE World | 2026: #501-600 | 2025: #501-600 | 2024: #501-600 |

University of Siegen Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
University of Siegen does not run a centralised placement cell in the Indian sense; German universities operate a Career Service that connects students to employers, careers fairs and Werkstudent internships during study.
- Average MS starting salary: EUR 45,000 to 55,000 per year (INR 49.5 to 60.5 lakh) for engineering graduates, based on market medians for NRW engineering firms
- Employment within 6 months: Not officially disclosed; German engineering masters typically achieve 85%+ employment within 6 months of graduation
- Top recruiting sectors: Automotive suppliers, industrial automation, software engineering and mechanical component manufacturers in the Siegen-Wittgenstein and Sauerland industrial belt
- Post-study work permit: Germany’s 18-month job-search residence permit gives Indian graduates time to convert to a Blue Card or work visa
- Career Service support: CV clinics, mock interviews and the annual Firmenkontaktmesse careers fair connect students with regional Mittelstand employers
Insider note: Indian graduates from Uni Siegen most commonly join automotive suppliers within a 100 km radius (Siegen, Cologne, Dortmund) rather than the flagship Munich or Stuttgart carmakers, which favour TU Munich or KIT graduates.
University of Siegen vs Peer Universities
Uni Siegen sits in the mid-tier of North Rhine-Westphalia public universities; the peer set below compares nearby NRW options and one cross-region alternative that Indian applicants frequently shortlist alongside Siegen.
| University | QS World 2027 | CD Study Abroad 2026 | Semester Contribution (EUR/INR lakh) | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| University of Siegen | #1201-1400 | #430 of 824 | EUR 330 / 0.36 lakh | Small town, low COL, strong mechatronics |
| University of Duisburg-Essen | #701-750 | #212 of 824 | EUR 344 / 0.38 lakh | Larger research base, Ruhr metro location |
| TU Dortmund | #801-850 | #252 of 824 | EUR 337 / 0.37 lakh | Dedicated technical university, stronger engineering brand |
| University of Wuppertal | #851-900 | #367 of 824 | EUR 335 / 0.37 lakh | Cross-listed industrial engineering with Bergisch region firms |
Uni Siegen stands out on cost-of-living (Siegen rents run 25-35% below Ruhr metro cities) and on class-size access to engineering professors. Peer NRW universities offer stronger overall rankings, but the semester contribution and admission thresholds sit close to identical across the four.
Universität Siegen fits Indian engineering applicants who prioritise zero-fee public education, a small-city budget, and a solid Blue-Card-eligible masters over ranking-badge prestige. Total annual investment sits at INR 12.61 lakh against a median entry salary near INR 60.5 lakh, which pays back the study year inside a first post-study contract.
The university is not a fit for applicants chasing top-100 world rankings or for those who want a large multinational recruiter presence on campus; those profiles will feel better served by TU Munich or RWTH Aachen among Germany’s engineering universities.

Peak season (April to June for Winter intake) can extend processing to 8 weeks. Indian applicants should submit the APS application at least 3 months before the Uni Siegen deadline. The APS fee is EUR 30, paid at the embassy or via demand draft.
Ques. Is health insurance mandatory for Indian students at University of Siegen?
Ans. Yes, health insurance is mandatory for all enrolled students in Germany. Indian students under 30 or before their 14th semester join public health insurance (TK, AOK or Barmer) at roughly EUR 130 per month (INR 14,300). Ans. The German student visa requires a blocked account (Sperrkonto) with EUR 11,904 (INR 13.09 lakh) for one year, effective for 2025-26 intake and typically revised each September. The blocked account releases EUR 992 per month to the student in Germany.
