University of Stuttgart admissions run on Germany’s standard two-intake cycle, with a Winter Semester start in October and a smaller Summer Semester start in April. Bachelor’s needs Class XII around 65% plus B2-level German, and a Master’s needs a related Bachelor’s degree at 60 to 70% or higher with proof of English or German proficiency depending on the language of instruction.

  • Base tuition and application fee: non-EU tuition is EUR 1,500 (around INR 1.67 Lakhs) per semester, and the University of Stuttgart charges no application fee.
  • Eligibility floor (recommended): UG needs Class XII at 65% with B2 German; PG needs a Bachelor’s at 60 to 70% plus IELTS 6.5-7.0.
  • Acceptance rate: around 71% institution-wide, though English-taught engineering master’s admit a smaller share.

The most-picked routes for Indian students are MS Information Technology (INFOTECH), MS Electrical Engineering, MS Mechanical Engineering, and MS Aerospace Engineering, all served by Stuttgart’s Bosch–Daimler–Porsche industry corridor; reviews on the University of Stuttgart profile skew positive on faculty access and thesis-with-industry options, mixed on the German-language load for daily life.

Admission status: The University of Stuttgart’s primary Winter Semester 2027/28 intake starts in October 2027. Application deadlines vary by programme: Bachelor's programmes generally close on 15 July 2027 or 15 September 2027, while Master's deadlines are programme-specific, with many English-taught programmes accepting applications from November 2026 to January 2027.

University of Stuttgart Application Deadlines

The University of Stuttgart runs two academic intakes each year: the Winter Semester (start October) and the Summer Semester (start April).

  • Bachelor’s programmes admit only in Winter, while master’s programmes admit in both.
  • English-taught international master’s carry their own earlier windows than the standard German-taught ones, so Indian applicants should read the deadline that matches their programme rather than the university-wide default.
  • Dates below are per the official University of Stuttgart application dates page.

University of Stuttgart’s primary intake for Indian students is the Winter Semester 2027/28 — most English-taught master’s programmes open here.

Intake Programme type Application deadline
Winter Semester 2027/28 Bachelor's with admission restrictions 15 July 2027
Winter Semester 2027/28 Bachelor's without admission restrictions 15 September 2027
Winter Semester 2027/28 German-taught Master's Usually 15 July 2027
Winter Semester 2027/28 English-taught / international Master's Varies by programme
Summer Semester 2027 Master's Usually 15 January 2027

University of Stuttgart Eligibility for Indian Students

The University of Stuttgart evaluates Indian degrees through the KMK anabin database, which classifies your university and Bachelor’s programme. Country-specific paperwork adds one more step: Indian applicants must submit an APS certificate from the German Embassy alongside their application.

  • UG general entry (recommended): Class XII (CBSE, ISC, or state board) with around 65%, plus one year of undergraduate study in India before Stuttgart will consider you for a Bachelor’s.
  • PG general entry (recommended): Bachelor’s degree of 3 to 4 years in a related field, minimum around 60 to 70%.
  • English tests accepted (English-taught master’s): IELTS Academic 6.5 to 7.0, TOEFL iBT 5.0
  • German tests accepted (German-taught programmes): TestDaF 4x4, DSH-2 or higher, Goethe C1/C2, DSD II, or telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule.
  • Mandatory for India: APS certificate from the German Embassy — no C@MPUS master’s application from India is complete without it.

University of Stuttgart Application Process on C@MPUS

The University of Stuttgart runs applications on its own C@MPUS portal — it does not use uni-assist. Every step below is online; the university’s own guidance is blunt: "Please do not submit any paper applications." Because Stuttgart charges no application fee, your only paid dependencies are the APS certificate and your English or German test — get both done before opening the portal.

  1. Register a C@MPUS account at the University of Stuttgart application portal and start a new application for Winter Semester 2027/28.
  2. Confirm the application fee status: no application fee is charged by the University of Stuttgart — the only pre-application cost is the APS certificate from the German Embassy in India.
  3. Upload scanned Class XII marksheet, Bachelor’s transcripts, degree certificate (or interim transcript), passport bio page, and photo.
  4. Upload English or German test score report and the mandatory APS certificate for India.
  5. Complete the programme-specific supplementary form (INFOTECH, WASTE, WAREM, and ITECH all publish separate adjunct forms).
  6. Submit before the programme deadline — C@MPUS closes at midnight German time on the day specified.
  7. Track your application status inside C@MPUS; offer letters land in the same account you registered with.

University of Stuttgart Admission Decisions Timeline

Once C@MPUS closes, the programme committee reviews each file, and English-taught engineering master’s programmes may add a shortlisting interview. Offer letters, admission notices, and any conditional offers arrive through C@MPUS, not by post. Indian applicants typically need the admission letter in hand at least eight weeks before enrollment to complete their visa file.

  • Decision window: most English-taught master’s committees decide 6 to 10 weeks after the deadline — expect INFOTECH decisions by mid-March 2027 for Winter Semester 2027/28.
  • Interview stage: Engineering Cybernetics runs interviews in February and March; INFOTECH and WASTE occasionally shortlist for online interviews.
  • Conditional offers: commonly attached when the Indian Bachelor’s is close to completion or when a bridging module is required; the condition is discharged during enrollment.
  • Acceptance deadline: you must confirm through C@MPUS and complete online enrollment within the window the offer letter specifies.
  • Deferral: the University of Stuttgart does not offer automatic deferral — a missed cycle means a fresh application in the next intake.

University of Stuttgart Documents Required

Every document uploaded to C@MPUS must be legible, scanned in colour, and paired with a certified English or German translation done by a licensed sworn translator. Screenshots, self-typed translations, and JPEGs of low-resolution phone photos are grounds for rejection at the review stage.

  • Passport bio page: valid for at least the length of your programme plus 12 months.
  • Class XII marksheet and school leaving certificate: both original scan and certified translation.
  • Bachelor’s transcripts and consolidated marksheet: semester-wise with GPA or percentage.
  • Bachelor’s degree certificate: or an interim transcript with an expected date of completion.
  • APS certificate: issued by the Academic Examination Office at the German Embassy in New Delhi — mandatory for every Indian applicant.
  • English proficiency report: IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or Cambridge — with the score sent electronically to Stuttgart where the test allows.
  • German proficiency certificate: only if applying to a German-taught programme.
  • Motivation letter (SOP): programme-specific, 1 to 2 pages.
  • Curriculum vitae: Europass format preferred.
  • Two Letters of Recommendation (LORs): academic preferred; INFOTECH and WASTE ask for signed and stamped originals on institutional letterhead.
  • Module descriptions: for master’s applicants, copies of the syllabi of Bachelor’s subjects to allow credit mapping.

University of Stuttgart Acceptance Rate 2026

The University of Stuttgart carries an institution-wide acceptance rate of around 71%, placing it as a moderately competitive TU9 technical university. That headline figure hides the split between open-admission German-taught programmes (which admit most qualifying applicants) and selective English-taught international master’s like INFOTECH, WASTE, and Engineering Cybernetics (which admit a smaller share). For a fuller breakdown of Indian-student outcomes and yield, see the University of Stuttgart acceptance rate page.

Why the 71% Figure is Only Half the Story

Open-admission Bachelor’s programmes in German are essentially uncapped for applicants who meet Class XII + German-language + APS thresholds. Add these to the denominator and the overall rate climbs. Selective English master’s committees, by contrast, filter on Bachelor’s GPA and prerequisite coverage — an INFOTECH cohort with an IELTS 7.0 floor cannot be modeled off the same 71% number.

Stuttgart Admit Odds for Indian Applicants

Indian applicants land closer to the middle of the funnel — the APS filter alone removes casual applicants, and the English-taught engineering master’s tend to admit candidates with a first-class Bachelor’s from an anabin H+ university. Prepare as if the effective rate for INFOTECH-class programmes is between 25 and 40%, based on published cohort sizes versus known application volumes; the university does not publish an official per-programme figure.

The Winter Semester 2027/28 window is the one Indian applicants should build a plan around: open the APS file now, sit IELTS by November 2026, and treat 15 January 2027 as the working deadline even if your programme officially closes on 15 February. With no application fee at Stuttgart and a public-university tuition of INR 1.67 Lakhs per semester, the real cost is timing — not money.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ques. Does the University of Stuttgart charge an application fee for Indian students?

Ans. No. The University of Stuttgart charges no application fee on its C@MPUS portal. The only mandatory pre-application cost for Indian applicants is the APS certificate from the German Embassy in India.

Ques. Is IELTS or TOEFL waived for Indian applicants with English-medium Bachelor’s?

Ques. What is the minimum IELTS score for a Stuttgart English-taught master’s?

Ans. The institution-wide floor is IELTS 6.5. INFOTECH publishes the strictest floor at IELTS 7.0 with a corresponding TOEFL iBT 95 and PTE Academic 76.

Ques. Do I need uni-assist to apply to the University of Stuttgart?

Ans. No. Stuttgart runs its own C@MPUS portal and does not process applications through uni-assist for its standard admissions route. Every document is uploaded directly to C@MPUS.

Ques. What is the tuition fee for Indian students at the University of Stuttgart?

Ans. Non-EU students pay a state-mandated tuition of EUR 1,500 (around INR 1.67 Lakhs) per semester, plus a smaller semester contribution. The detailed cost breakdown by course is on the University of Stuttgart fees page.

Ques. Is the APS certificate compulsory for Indian applicants?

Ans. Yes. Every Indian applicant to a German public university, including the University of Stuttgart, must submit an APS certificate issued by the Academic Examination Office at the German Embassy. It is a hard prerequisite, not an optional document.

Ques. Are Bachelor’s programmes at the University of Stuttgart offered in English?

Ans. No. Every Bachelor’s programme is taught in German and admits only in the Winter Semester. Indian Bachelor’s applicants need TestDaF 4x4 or DSH-2 alongside Class XII and one year of undergraduate study in India.

Ques. What is the acceptance rate at the University of Stuttgart?

Ans. The institution-wide acceptance rate is around 71%. Selective English-taught master’s like INFOTECH, WASTE, and Engineering Cybernetics admit a smaller share, effectively in the 25 to 40 percent band based on published cohort sizes.

Scholarship

  • In most of the STEM courses there are no scholarships, but if you apply to some different courses from DAAD, then there are chances you can receive a scholarship.
  • 2 of my batchmates have received any scholarship but usually the scholarship amounts to around 300 euros per month but that also depends on your financial situation. You need to have good grades during your master's and a great cover letter for the scholarship.

Scholarship

  • I have not received any scholarships but there are a few scholarships available from DAAD for specific courses. There is a Deutschland Stipendium Scholarship, which offers 300 Euros per semester to a student until their end of studies. The number of students receiving scholarships is very low and between 50-100 though I'm not exactly sure.
  • There are some scholarships offered by private individuals and organizations to students with good academic records who are actively involved in Civil activities and political movements. These are offered on a case-by-case basis.

Scholarship

  • I am not sure about any specific scholarships for the course but there are things like Deutschland Stipendium that you can apply if you get really good grades, like 1.0
  • I am not sure about the eligibility criteria and others
  • There is also a scholarship called PROMOS which I had for pursuing an internship in South Korea for which I needed to give my - Grade sheet an internship offer from a Korean University and then decide based on the the applicants
  • The scholarship is 450 Euro per month and a Airway airfare of 1500 net (as it was COVID the quarantine and tests were also covered)
