University of Stuttgart Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Indian master’s applicants need a completed 4-year bachelor’s degree, the APS Certificate, and proof of English proficiency for English-taught programmes.

  • Bachelor’s degree: 4-year bachelor’s in a subject-matched discipline with at least 65% or CGPA 6.5/10 (recommended, verify per programme on the official admission regulations page)
  • English proficiency: IELTS Academic 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 90 for most English-taught masters; INFOTECH requires IELTS Academic 7.0 or TOEFL iBT 95, PTE Academic 76, Cambridge C1/C2 or telc B2/C1 as per the INFOTECH admission page
  • APS Certificate: Mandatory for all Indian applicants; obtained through the Academic Evaluation Centre at the German Embassy in New Delhi
  • Standout requirement: Programme-specific bachelor’s course content match is scrutinised; module descriptions must be uploaded, and gaps in mathematics, programming or thermodynamics can trigger rejection even at a strong GPA

UG applicants also need a certified German C1 for most bachelor’s programmes and must clear the one-year Studienkolleg foundation route if their Indian degree does not directly qualify for the German Hochschulzugangsberechtigung.

Key insight: An IELTS waiver is available if your entire bachelor’s degree was taught and examined in English, backed by an official medium of instruction letter from your university, but the APS Certificate is never waived for Indian applicants.

University of Stuttgart Acceptance Rate 2027

University of Stuttgart runs an estimated acceptance rate of 71% (estimated) across all applicants, though English-taught master’s programmes with international demand (INFOTECH, MS Computer Science, MS Aerospace) run materially tighter selection. The university does not publish an official institution-wide admit rate, so this figure is a third-party estimate derived from published enrolment and application volumes.

Selection at the programme level weighs bachelor’s subject match, GPA and module coverage more than raw test scores. Strong Indian applicants with a first-class engineering bachelor’s, matching modules and a clean APS profile see meaningfully higher offer rates than the headline number suggests.

Reality check: The 71% figure is a whole-university average across easy-to-enter German-taught bachelor’s; the English-taught engineering masters that Indian students actually apply to are far more competitive, particularly INFOTECH and Aerospace.

Monthly Cost of Living in Stuttgart for Indian Students

Stuttgart runs at the higher end of the German cost band because of Baden-Württemberg housing pressure, but student-hall accommodation and the semester ticket keep total monthly outgoings under EUR 1,050 for most Indian students.

ExpenseMonthly (EUR)Monthly (INR)
Accommodation (student hall or shared WG)EUR 380 to EUR 550INR 41,800 to INR 60,500
Food and groceriesEUR 200INR 22,000

Total AnnualEUR 9,600 to EUR 12,24010.6 to 13.5 lakh

[Source: University of Stuttgart official cost estimate, EUR 992 per month]

Insider note: Studierendenwerk Stuttgart halls charge EUR 300 to EUR 450 per month but the waitlist runs 6 to 12 months, so most first-year Indian students land in a private WG (shared flat) at EUR 500 plus, then move into a hall from semester 2.

University of Stuttgart Campus, Facilities and Student Life

University of Stuttgart operates two main campuses: Stadtmitte in the city centre (architecture, humanities, business) and Vaihingen to the south (engineering, computer science, natural sciences), linked by a 15-minute S-Bahn ride on the city’s suburban rail network.

  • Location and transport: Vaihingen campus is a direct S1/S2/S3 S-Bahn line from Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof, covered by the EUR 30 semester ticket
  • Housing: Studierendenwerk halls charge EUR 300 to EUR 450 per month, but only around 15% of international students secure a spot in year one
  • Research facilities: The Institute of Aerospace Systems (IRS), the High-Performance Computing Center (HLRS) with the Hawk supercomputer, and the ARENA2036 automotive research campus with Daimler and Bosch
  • Indian community: Around 1,200 to 1,500 Indian students across all programmes, with an active Indian Students Association organising Diwali and Holi events on both campuses

What Indian students say: The Vaihingen campus feels like an engineering village next to Bosch and Porsche R&D; part-time Werkstudent roles at those firms are the single biggest reason people pick Stuttgart over Munich or Berlin.

University of Stuttgart Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

University of Stuttgart engineering graduates enter one of the densest industrial recruiting corridors in Europe, with Daimler, Bosch, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche headquartered within a 30-kilometre radius of the Vaihingen campus.

  • Median starting salary: EUR 55,000 per year (INR 60.5 lakh, market median for German engineering master’s graduates)
  • Top hiring sectors: Automotive R&D, aerospace systems, industrial automation, software engineering and renewable energy
  • Representative employers (labeled sectors): Daimler, Bosch, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, MAHLE, Trumpf, Siemens, IBM Germany and SAP
  • Alumni note: Notable alumni include former Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche and Nobel laureate Klaus von Klitzing
  • Post-study work: Indian graduates get an 18-month job-search residence permit after degree completion, convertible to a Blue Card once a qualifying job offer is signed

Insider note: Werkstudent (part-time student) roles at Bosch, Daimler and Porsche during the master’s degree are the primary conversion funnel to full-time offers; Indian students who land a Werkstudent role in semester 2 are the ones who most often walk into a signed contract before thesis submission.

University of Stuttgart vs Peer Universities

Compared against the other TU9 technical universities Indian applicants shortlist alongside it, University of Stuttgart matches on tuition and beats on Aerospace and Mechanical subject rank, while trailing TUM and RWTH on overall QS position.

UniversityQS World 2027Collegedunia Study Abroad 2026PG Tuition per Year (INR lakh)Differentiator
University of Stuttgart#=318Global #2353.7 lakhAutomotive and aerospace corridor with Daimler, Bosch, Porsche
Technical University of Munich#22NANil (tuition-free)Strongest German ranking, English-taught masters, no non-EU tuition
RWTH Aachen University#99NANil (tuition-free)Largest German engineering school, no non-EU tuition
KIT Karlsruhe#111NA3.7 lakhSame Baden-Württemberg fee model, stronger physics and CS
TU Darmstadt#=294NANil (tuition-free)Frankfurt corridor placements, no non-EU tuition

Stuttgart stands out where the target is automotive or aerospace industry entry: the QS Subject rank #68 for Mechanical, Aerospace and Manufacturing Engineering plus Werkstudent access to the German auto majors is a stronger placement funnel than any peer outside TUM. For students focused on pure computer science or lowest total cost, TUM or Darmstadt beat it on tuition.

University of Stuttgart is the right pick for the Indian engineering graduate targeting an automotive or aerospace career in Germany. A full-degree cost of INR 24 lakh against a median starting salary of INR 60.5 lakh gives an ROI window under 12 months, and the German 18-month post-study work visa plus Blue Card pathway locks in EU work rights.

It is not the right pick for applicants whose priority is a tuition-free public university, a top-100 QS ranking or a purely English-language undergraduate degree. Applicants in that profile should shortlist Technical University of Munich instead, which charges no non-EU tuition and sits at QS #22.

University of Stuttgart FAQs

Ques. Which English-taught master’s programmes at University of Stuttgart admit Indian students?

Ans. University of Stuttgart offers English-taught master’s programmes in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, INFOTECH, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science, Photonic Engineering, Computational Mechanics (COMMAS), Water Resources (WAREM), Sustainable Electrical Power Supply and WASTE. Indian applicants apply directly through the C@MPUS portal without needing German B2 proof for these programmes, though a German A1 or A2 certificate helps with the visa interview and part-time work.

Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at University of Stuttgart?

Ans. Yes, Indian students on a German student residence permit can work up to 140 full days or 280 half days per calendar year without additional authorisation. Werkstudent roles at Bosch, Daimler and Porsche pay EUR 15 to EUR 22 per hour and count toward this cap. Any work beyond the annual limit requires prior approval from the local Foreigners’ Office and the Federal Employment Agency in Stuttgart.

Ques. Does University of Stuttgart waive the IELTS requirement for Indian applicants?

Ans. Yes, the IELTS or TOEFL requirement is waived if your bachelor’s degree was taught and examined entirely in English, evidenced by an official medium of instruction letter from your Indian university on institutional letterhead. Programmes like INFOTECH still require the test unless the letter explicitly certifies English-medium instruction across all semesters. Some programmes require the letter to name each subject taught in English.

Ques. What is the application fee for University of Stuttgart master’s programmes?

Ans. University of Stuttgart charges no application fee for master’s programmes submitted directly through the C@MPUS portal. The only compulsory upfront cost for Indian applicants is the APS Certificate fee of USD 250 (INR 22,000) paid to the Academic Evaluation Centre in New Delhi. Programmes routed through uni-assist may charge EUR 75 for the first application and EUR 30 for each additional programme.

Ques. Are Indian education loans accepted for University of Stuttgart tuition?

Ans. Yes, SBI, HDFC Credila, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank and Bank of Baroda all recognise University of Stuttgart under their premier German university list, offering loans up to INR 40 lakh without collateral. Loan sanctions accept the C@MPUS admission letter as proof, but visa filing also needs a blocked account of EUR 11,904 per year, which loan disbursement can fund. Non-collateral loans clear faster if the co-applicant has a steady salary income.

Ques. What documents does University of Stuttgart require from Indian applicants at enrolment?

Ans. Indian applicants must submit their APS Certificate, bachelor’s degree certificate and transcripts, English proficiency test scorecard, statement of purpose, curriculum vitae, module descriptions matching the master’s programme, passport bio page and passport photograph. Physical enrolment in Stuttgart additionally needs the German student visa, blocked account confirmation and health insurance registration. Certificates must be officially translated to German or English by a sworn translator.

Ques. Does University of Stuttgart accept a 3-year Indian bachelor’s degree for master’s admission?

Ans. University of Stuttgart requires a 4-year bachelor’s degree (or equivalent to 240 ECTS) for direct master’s admission, so most 3-year Indian bachelor’s holders do not qualify without a bridge. Applicants with a 3-year BSc plus a 2-year MSc from India can apply. Standalone 3-year BSc holders can pursue a bachelor’s top-up or an MBA-track programme, verify eligibility with the International Office before applying.

Ques. Can Indian students bring dependents on a University of Stuttgart student visa?

Ans. Yes, Indian students can bring a spouse and unminor children on a family reunion visa if they show sufficient funds and adequate housing in Stuttgart. The additional blocked account requirement is roughly EUR 6,000 per dependent per year, plus proof of a two-room or larger apartment. Spouse work rights are unrestricted once the family reunion residence permit is issued by the Stuttgart Foreigners’ Office.
