Maynooth University Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
Indian applicants to Maynooth University must show academic strength on the Indian scale, meet the English language minimum, and provide credential verification before an offer is issued.
Postgraduate Requirements
- Academic: Bachelor’s degree (3 or 4 year) with CGPA 6.0 to 6.5/10 or 55% to 65% (varies by programme; STEM programmes sit at the higher end)
- English: IELTS 6.5 overall (no band below 6.0), TOEFL iBT 90 (min 19 per section), PTE Academic 63 (min 59 per section), or Duolingo 120 (min 110 in literacy, conversation, comprehension; 95 in production)

- Standout requirement: Two academic or professional references and a statement of purpose for most masters programmes
Undergraduate Requirements
- Academic: Class 12 with minimum 75% overall including 70% in English, from CBSE, ICSE, or an equivalent Indian state board
- English: IELTS 6.5 (no band below 6.0), or 70% in Class 12 English if taught in English medium
- Additional: Attested Class 10 and 12 mark sheets, plus a personal statement
Key insight: Indian students taught in English-medium schools can request an IELTS waiver by submitting a school-issued medium of instruction letter, but Maynooth still reserves the right to ask for a test score if application English shows weakness.
Maynooth University Acceptance Rate 2027
Maynooth University does not publish an official acceptance rate. Third-party estimates place the overall admit rate at 30% (estimated), with selective postgraduate programmes such as MS Computer Science and MS Data Science running lower due to volume of applicants.
The estimate should be read as a directional guide, not a fixed cutoff. Programme-level selectivity varies more than the overall figure suggests.
Reality check: Meeting the published minimums does not guarantee admission for oversubscribed MS Computer Science and Data Science tracks; applicants with 65% or above in a technical bachelor’s and clear internship or project evidence stand out.

Maynooth University vs Peer Universities
The peer set below compares Maynooth against three Irish universities Indian applicants shortlist alongside it, using QS World 2027 and Collegedunia Study Abroad 2026 as the reference bands.
| University | QS World 2027 | Collegedunia Study Abroad 2026 | PG Fee (EUR / INR) | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Maynooth University | #721-730 | Global #386, Ireland #5 | EUR 14,000 to 18,620 / INR 15.69 to 20.86 lakh | Lowest cost of living among Dublin-area universities |
| Dublin City University | #410 | Global #266, Ireland #4 | EUR 16,000 to 21,000 / INR 17.93 to 23.53 lakh (estimated) | Strongest STEM industry links in Dublin |
| University of Galway | #284 | Global #216, Ireland #3 | EUR 17,000 to 25,000 / INR 19.05 to 28.01 lakh (estimated) | Medicine and life-sciences depth |
| University College Cork | #246 | Global #211, Ireland #2 | EUR 17,500 to 24,000 / INR 19.61 to 26.89 lakh (estimated) | Broad research portfolio and coastal setting |
Maynooth stands out for its low cost of living and automatic 50% International scholarship, which together produce the lowest net cost among Ireland’s mid-tier research universities for Indian applicants.
Maynooth University suits Indian applicants who want an accredited Irish master’s within a EUR 25,000 to 30,000 annual all-in budget, converting the degree into the Stamp 1G work window and, ideally, a Critical Skills Employment Permit. The total investment of EUR 24,000 to 33,000 (INR 26.89 to 36.97 lakh) pays back inside 12 months on the market median MS salary of EUR 40,000 to 50,000, and the automatic 50% International scholarship is the single strongest Indian-specific advantage backed by the Ireland Critical Skills Employment Permit pathway.
It is not the best fit for applicants targeting a top-100 QS brand or a highly specialised MBA cohort. Indian candidates whose priority is global brand should compare Trinity College Dublin, and those focused on an MBA should look at University College Dublin’s Smurfit Business School.

Ques. How does the 50% International scholarship at Maynooth University work?
Ans. The 50% Maynooth University International scholarship is awarded automatically at the point of offer, based on the applicant’s academic transcripts, and applies for the full duration of the programme. The award halves the payable non-EU tuition, cutting a typical MS fee of EUR 18,000 to EUR 9,000 per year for eligible students.
Ques. Is GRE or GMAT required for Maynooth University master’s programmes?
Ans. No, Maynooth University does not require GRE or GMAT for any of its taught master’s programmes, including MS Computer Science, MS Data Science and Analytics, and MS Business Management. This lowers the application cost meaningfully for Indian applicants compared with US masters.
Ques. What is the application fee for Maynooth University for Indian students?
Ans. The postgraduate application fee at Maynooth University is EUR 50 (INR 5,602), paid online at submission. Ans. Maynooth University is included on the approved university lists of most public and private Indian education-loan lenders, including State Bank of India, HDFC Credila, ICICI Bank, Bank of Baroda, and Axis Bank. Ans. Yes, Maynooth University runs a smaller January intake for selected postgraduate taught programmes, primarily within the School of Business, humanities, and some computing pathways. - It doesn't have a lot of industrial exposure if someone follows only the course structure.

Overview
Ireland is a very peaceful and beautiful country .Maynooth University is the best university in Ireland for climate research and hence was the ideal choice for me as I wanted a career in climate sciences and was hoping to undertake a master's abroad. This course ,which I am currently pursuing, M.Sc in climate change is offered by ICARUS (Irish climate analysis and research units) which is a forerunner in climate research in Ireland .The professors teaching us are leading scientists, some of them being lead authors in the intergovernmental panel on climate change (IPCC).What I mostly liked about my course is that it is more learning based .The modules are a blend of science, policies, statistics and data analysis, thus it is interdisciplinary. This is the most attractive feature of the course. Maynooth University has the highest student satisfaction rates and the best international office with a thriving international student community and last but not the least the campus is breathtaking !
Fees
The course fee for M.Sc Climate change is 14000 euros (INR 1,207,865.64)for international students.
