Maynooth University admissions run on a two-track model. Undergraduate offers rest on Class XII at 60 percent or higher with English-medium instruction, while postgraduate entry needs a three or four-year Bachelor’s with 55 to 75 percent depending on the discipline, plus an IELTS 6.5 (no band under 6.0) or accepted equivalent.
- Primary intake — September 2027: the PAC portal opens on 14 October 2026 for taught postgraduate courses.
- Base tuition: EUR 14,000 to EUR 18,620 (INR 15.51 Lakhs to INR 20.62 Lakhs) for Master’s; the application fee is EUR 50 (INR 5,538).
- Eligibility floor: UG needs Class XII at 60 percent; PG needs a Bachelor’s at 55 percent (STEM PG needs 65 percent, 2:1); English at IELTS 6.5.
- Acceptance rate: around 73 percent across international intakes, based on third-party estimates as the university does not publish an official figure.
Popular pulls for Indian students at Maynooth University are the MSc Computer Science (Applied), MSc Data Science and Analytics, and LLM International Business Law. Applicant sentiment on r/IWantOut and Shiksha threads is steady: fair review turnaround, generous automatic tuition scholarship, and a small-town Kildare setting that keeps living costs 20 to 30 percent below Dublin.

Maynooth University Application Deadlines for Indian Students
Maynooth University runs two intakes each year: a large September (autumn) cycle where the vast majority of programmes open, and a small January (spring) cycle limited to select taught Master’s and research entries. Deadlines vary by programme; dates below reflect the institution-wide windows per the MU international applicants page. September 2027 is the primary intake.
Maynooth University’s primary intake for Indian students is September 2027 — most programmes open here.

Maynooth University Eligibility for Indian Students
Eligibility is program-tiered. Maynooth uses the Irish National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) as its baseline, and Indian degrees are mapped by the MU International Office at application. The floor sits at Class XII with 60 percent for UG and a Bachelor’s at 55 percent for PG, but STEM Master’s such as Computer Science and Data Science demand a 2:1 honours (65 percent or higher) in a related discipline.
Maynooth Academic Eligibility Floors
- UG general entry: Class XII (CBSE/ICSE/State Board) at 60 percent or higher with Mathematics or English studied through Class XII.
- PG taught (humanities and business): Three or four-year Bachelor’s with 55 percent or higher (2:2 equivalent).
- PG taught (STEM and MSc CS/Data Science): Four-year Bachelor’s at 65 percent or higher (2:1 equivalent) in a cognate discipline.
- LLM programmes: Bachelor’s in law or a cognate humanities/social science subject at 60 percent or higher.
- PhD entry: Master’s with research component or exceptional Bachelor’s plus a confirmed MU supervisor.
Maynooth English Language Requirements
Maynooth accepts several tests; scores below are the institution-wide floor per the Maynooth University ranking band profile and the Maynooth English language subpage.
| Test | Minimum Overall | Sectional Rule |
|---|---|---|
| IELTS Academic | 6.5 | No band below 6.0 |
| TOEFL iBT | 90 | Writing 21, others 19 minimum |
| PTE Academic | 63 | No communicative below 59 |
| Duolingo English Test | 120 | Literacy/Conversation/Comprehension 110; Production 95 |
Maynooth IELTS Waiver for Indian Students
Indian applicants whose Class XII was completed in an English-medium school (CBSE, ICSE, or English-medium State Board) may request an English-language waiver at the point of application. The waiver is discretionary and typically granted where a Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter from the school confirms English delivery. Applicants who studied a Bachelor’s fully in English (with an MOI letter from the university) can also request a waiver. Business degrees still require IELTS 6.5 with 6.0 in Reading and Writing regardless of MOI, so plan the test if you are targeting the School of Business.
Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Maynooth University page for your chosen program before applying.
Maynooth University Postgraduate Programs and Fees

Every programme demands the institution-wide IELTS 6.5 unless the programme page states otherwise.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Maynooth University page for your chosen program before applying.
Maynooth University Undergraduate Programs for Indian Students
Non-EU undergraduate applicants — including Indian students — apply directly through the MU Apply portal rather than the CAO system reserved for EU/EEA and UK candidates. Bachelor’s tuition runs from EUR 16,500 to EUR 18,000 (INR 18.27 Lakhs to INR 19.94 Lakhs) per year. The core UG floor is Class XII at 60 percent, with programme-specific subject prerequisites layered on top.
| Programme | Duration | Minimum Eligibility | English Req. Min. |
|---|---|---|---|
| BA Arts (Humanities) | 3 years | Class XII at 60 percent | IELTS 6.5 |
| BSc Computer Science and Software Engineering | 4 years | Class XII at 70 percent with Mathematics | IELTS 6.5 |
| BSc Data Science and Analytics | 4 years | Class XII at 70 percent with Mathematics | IELTS 6.5 |
| BBS Business Studies | 4 years | Class XII at 65 percent | IELTS 6.5 (6.0 Reading/Writing) |
| BCL Law (Bachelor of Civil Law) | 3 years | Class XII at 70 percent with strong English | IELTS 6.5 |
| BSc Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Chemistry | 4 years | Class XII at 65 percent with Chemistry | IELTS 6.5 |
Direct entry to Year 1 is standard for CBSE and ICSE Class XII holders. State-board applicants at lower percentages can route through the Maynooth International Foundation Certificate, a one-year pathway that guarantees a Bachelor’s seat on completion.
Maynooth University MBA Rounds and Eligibility
Maynooth’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) is a Level 9 postgraduate offering at the School of Business, delivered as a 12-month full-time programme. It is not a large-cohort ranked MBA in the FT sense — it is a general-management degree taken by early to mid-career professionals. Entry does not mandate GMAT for the full-time route.
Maynooth MBA Entry Requirements
- Full-time MBA: Bachelor’s at 2:2 (55 percent or higher) in any discipline, plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience preferred.
- Non-standard route: Applicants without a primary degree need 10 years of work experience, of which 3 are in a management position, and are assessed via the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) route.
- English: IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.0 in Reading and Writing.
- GMAT/GRE: Not required, but strong scores can support borderline profiles.
MU MBA Application Rounds
| Round | Deadline | Decision By |
|---|---|---|
| Round 1 (early) | 31 January 2027 | Mid-March 2027 |
| Round 2 (main) | 31 March 2027 | Mid-May 2027 |
| Round 3 (final) | 30 June 2027 | Late-July 2027 |
Shortlisted applicants are typically invited to a 15 to 20 minute interview, held online for international candidates, covering career trajectory, motivation for the MBA, and post-programme plans. Base tuition is around EUR 15,000 (INR 16.61 Lakhs) — see the course-wise fees breakdown and check the Scholarships page for MBA-eligible awards.
Maynooth University PhD Application Path
Maynooth PhDs are supervisor-led. Before applying, you must secure a written commitment from a Maynooth faculty supervisor whose research aligns with your proposed topic. There is no fixed institutional deadline — entry is rolling three times a year (September, February, May), with individual scholarships tied to their own cut-offs.
MU PhD Entry Requirements
- Academic: Master’s degree in a related discipline, or a very strong four-year Bachelor’s at 2:1 or higher.
- Research proposal: 1,500 to 3,000 words outlining topic, methodology, and timeline.
- Supervisor endorsement: Email confirmation from a Maynooth faculty member attached to your application.
- English: IELTS 6.5 overall (7.0 recommended for humanities disciplines).
Maynooth PhD Funding for Indian Applicants
The flagship funding route is the John and Pat Hume Doctoral Award: it covers full EU-level tuition fees and pays a stipend of EUR 18,500 (INR 20.49 Lakhs) per year for the 2026-2027 academic year. Awardees must be full-time and campus-based. External funding includes Irish Research Council (IRC) awards and Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Centres.
Insider note: The Hume Awards close roughly six months before the intake — usually late February for the following September start. Line up your supervisor by December to make the deadline realistic.
Note: Program-specific PhD funding amounts, stipend rates, and scholarship windows may differ by department. Confirm on the official Maynooth University page for your target research group.
Maynooth University Application Process for Indian Students
Application routing depends on level. Non-EU undergraduate applicants go through MU Apply (Maynooth’s own portal — CAO is EU/EEA/UK-only). Taught postgraduate applicants go through PAC (Postgraduate Applications Centre), Ireland’s central platform used by all seven universities. PhD applicants use MU Apply direct.
MU Application Steps
- Pick your programme on the Maynooth course finder and note the PAC code (for PG) or MU Apply code (for UG and PhD). The PAC portal for September 2027 opens on 14 October 2026.
- Create an account on PAC (PG) or the MU Apply portal (UG/PhD) and start a new application.
- Fill in academic history in the sequence: Class X → Class XII → Bachelor’s → any Master’s. Upload consolidated transcripts and degree certificates.
- Upload English test score, SOP (500 to 1,000 words), 2 LORs, CV, and passport bio-page copy.
- Pay the application fee of EUR 50 (around INR 5,538) on PAC or MU Apply to submit. Fees are non-refundable.
- Track status on the portal — decision windows below.
Maynooth Admission Decisions Timeline
Once submitted, Maynooth’s turnaround is 4 to 6 weeks for taught PG applications and 6 to 8 weeks for MBA and PhD. Offers arrive by email with a linked PDF letter. Conditional offers list the pending requirements (final transcript, IELTS report). Accept the offer on the portal within 30 days, then pay a EUR 3,000 (INR 3.32 Lakhs) tuition deposit to convert it to unconditional and unlock your visa-support letter.
Planning note: Deferrals to the next intake are allowed once and only within the same academic year. Two deferrals in a row require a fresh application and a fresh fee.
Maynooth University Documents Required for Indian Students
Documents are uploaded as PDFs on PAC or MU Apply. Certified translations are unnecessary for Indian records since they are already in English. Keep every scan under 5 MB and in colour where a stamp or signature is visible.
- Passport bio-page: Colour scan, valid at least 24 months past the intake.
- Academic transcripts: Class X, Class XII, and semester-wise Bachelor’s marksheets.
- Degree certificate: Or provisional certificate if the final is pending.
- Statement of Purpose: 500 to 1,000 words tailored to the programme, not a generic template.
- Two Letters of Recommendation: One academic, one professional preferred; on letterhead with signature.
- CV or resume: One to two pages, reverse-chronological.
- English test score report: IELTS TRF, TOEFL iBT score report, PTE, or Duolingo certificate (or MOI letter if seeking waiver).
- Passport-size photograph: Recent, plain background.
- Work experience letters: Required for MBA and executive Master’s, with dates and role summary.
- Research proposal: PhD only.
Maynooth University Acceptance Rate for Indian Applicants
Maynooth’s overall acceptance rate is estimated at around 73 percent, based on aggregator profiles of international admits — the university does not publish an official institutional figure. In practice, admission is more discipline-sensitive than the headline number suggests.
Maynooth Acceptance Rate by Programme Tier
- Humanities and social sciences: 75 to 85 percent — the softest gate, especially for MA and LLM programmes.
- Business Master’s: 65 to 75 percent — competitive at the MBA and MSc Business Analytics tier.
- STEM Master’s (CS, Data Science): 40 to 55 percent — the tightest gate, first-batch review closes early.
What Makes Maynooth Accessible
Maynooth follows an access-oriented model — it admits most applicants who clearly meet the stated academic and English thresholds and does not require a competitive elimination round like Trinity or UCD for most courses. That said, oversubscribed STEM Master’s do run a merit-based waitlist once the cohort fills.
Reality check: A 65 percent Bachelor’s in Computer Science with IELTS 6.5 is a strong profile for MSc CS at Maynooth — but only if you apply within the first three months of PAC opening. Late applicants with the same profile are frequently waitlisted.
Ireland Student Visa Process for Maynooth University Students
Indian students need a D-type long-stay study visa for programmes over three months, and register for Stamp 2 after landing. Apply only after receiving the unconditional offer letter and paying the tuition deposit — the visa system will not accept your application without both.
Steps: complete the online AVATS (Automated Visa Application Tracking System) form on the Irish Immigration Service website, print and sign the summary, book a VFS Global appointment in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, or Hyderabad, and submit documents plus biometrics. Financial proof required is EUR 10,000 (INR 11.08 Lakhs) in a bank account or a sanction letter from an RBI-registered lender; this is separate from your tuition remittance. Processing runs 4 to 8 weeks from submission. Within 90 days of landing at Dublin airport, book an IRP (Irish Residence Permit) appointment on Burgh Quay and pay the EUR 300 (INR 33,225) IRP registration fee to receive your Stamp 2 endorsement.
2026 update: The Irish Department of Justice now allows online IRP renewals from within Dublin, but first-time registration is in person only. Book your slot within 30 days of arrival — August and September fill up.
Tips and Application Checklist for Maynooth University
The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Maynooth University over the past two intakes, with a focus on timing and PAC-portal mechanics.
- Apply in the first 8 weeks: PAC opens 14 October 2026 — a submission by mid-December locks in early scholarship consideration.
- Request transcripts 8 weeks before deadline: Indian universities often take 4 to 6 weeks to issue attested consolidated transcripts.
- Attach the MOI letter proactively: Even if you have IELTS 6.5, adding a Medium of Instruction letter shortens verification.
- Draft the SOP against the programme’s learning outcomes: Maynooth reviewers score match-to-programme, not general enthusiasm.
- Book IELTS by November 2026: Slot availability tightens December to March each year in Indian metros.
- Pay the deposit within 3 weeks of the offer: The visa-support letter (unconditional acceptance letter) is only issued after deposit.
- Start visa file by April 2027: Book VFS in Delhi/Mumbai/Bangalore at least 12 weeks before the September start.
- Line up a Maynooth supervisor by December (PhD only): Hume Award deadlines close late February.
- Confirm the 50 percent scholarship: The Maynooth University International Student Scholarship is automatic on offer — no separate form — but the EUR 2,000 (INR 2.22 Lakhs) Taught Master’s award needs a PAC essay.
Applications for September 2027 at Maynooth University’s QS 721-730 ranking band profile open on 14 October 2026 on PAC, close by 30 June 2027, and cost EUR 50 (INR 5,538); the 50 percent International Scholarship is automatic and the Spring 2027 window closes 31 October 2026.

Overview
Ireland is a very peaceful and beautiful country .Maynooth University is the best university in Ireland for climate research and hence was the ideal choice for me as I wanted a career in climate sciences and was hoping to undertake a master's abroad. This course ,which I am currently pursuing, M.Sc in climate change is offered by ICARUS (Irish climate analysis and research units) which is a forerunner in climate research in Ireland .The professors teaching us are leading scientists, some of them being lead authors in the intergovernmental panel on climate change (IPCC).What I mostly liked about my course is that it is more learning based .The modules are a blend of science, policies, statistics and data analysis, thus it is interdisciplinary. This is the most attractive feature of the course. Maynooth University has the highest student satisfaction rates and the best international office with a thriving international student community and last but not the least the campus is breathtaking !
Scholarship
yes, I am in receipt of 50% Maynooth University International scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to International students purely on the basis of academic performance throughout ,no separate application is required for this . Additionally there is a 2000 euros taught masters scholarship which requires a separate application in a platform called "PAC". This can only be done if a student has been successfully accepted into a program.
