Maynooth University admissions for Indian students in the 2026/27 and 2027/28 cycles run on a single online portal for non-EU applicants, with a base academic floor of 60% or a Class XII qualification for undergraduate entry and a 2:2 or 2:1 honours Bachelor’s (roughly 55 to 60%) for postgraduate entry, plus IELTS 6.5 with no band under 6.0. Applications for the September 2027 intake sit alongside a still-live January 2027 window for select programs.

  • Next live deadline: September 2027 primary intake closes 31 May 2027, with the January 2027 intake still open until 31 October 2026.
  • Base tuition: EUR 14,000 to EUR 18,620 (around INR 15.62 to 20.77 Lakhs) per year for taught masters, plus a EUR 50 (around INR 5,578) application fee.

Maynooth University Application Deadlines and Intakes for Indian Students

Maynooth University runs two intakes each year for non-EU applicants: the primary September (Semester 1) intake, where every taught undergraduate and postgraduate programme opens, and the smaller January (Semester 2) intake restricted to select conversion masters. Non-EU Indian applicants apply through MU Apply (Maynooth’s own portal); a subset of taught PG courses route through the shared pac.ie platform, per the official Maynooth How to Apply page.

Maynooth University’s primary intake for Indian students is September (Semester 1) — most programs open here.

Maynooth University Eligibility Requirements for Indian Students

Indian applicants clear two floors at Maynooth: an academic threshold matched to the target programme, and an English proficiency floor of IELTS 6.5 with no individual band below 6.0. Institutional minimums appear below; specific programmes may set higher bars, particularly the MSc Computer Science stream, which requires a 2:1 honours Bachelor’s in Computer Science or a closely related discipline.

  • UG general entry: Class XII (CBSE, ISC, or a recognised state board) with at least 60% aggregate, plus subject prerequisites for the chosen course.
  • PG general entry: A recognised 3 or 4 year Bachelor’s degree at Level 8 equivalent, minimum 55 to 60% (Irish 2:2 or 2:1 honours).
  • Prerequisite modules: Programme-specific credits (for example, at least half the Bachelor’s modules in Computer Science for the MSc CS Applied route).

Maynooth University IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

Indian applicants can waive the IELTS or TOEFL requirement only if they have completed their full Bachelor’s degree taught in English in Ireland, the UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Nigeria, or Canada. Indian-medium undergraduate degrees do not currently qualify for an automatic waiver at Maynooth; Medium of Instruction (MOI) letters from Indian universities are reviewed case-by-case and are not guaranteed to satisfy the requirement. Your English test certificate must be dated within two years of the intended programme start.

Maynooth University PG Programs and English Scores

Maynooth’s postgraduate suite for Indian students centres on one-year taught masters in Computer Science, Data Science, Business, and Law. Base tuition for taught masters ranges from EUR 14,000 to EUR 18,620 per year (around INR 15.62 to 20.77 Lakhs), with figures per course confirmed on the course-wise fees breakdown. Every table row is the institutional minimum for that programme; individual course pages may layer additional prerequisites.

Insider note: The MSc Computer Science stream applies the strictest gate at Maynooth. Applicants whose Bachelor’s has fewer than 50% CS modules should route through the MSc CS (Software Engineering) one-year conversion cohort, which is more forgiving on discipline overlap.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Maynooth University international applicants page for your chosen program before applying.

Maynooth University UG Programs and Requirements for Indian Applicants

Non-EU undergraduates apply directly to Maynooth (not via the Irish CAO). Base tuition sits at EUR 16,500 to EUR 18,000 per year (around INR 18.41 to 20.08 Lakhs) depending on faculty; the full tuition-by-course tuition table lives on the education-courses catalogue. Each row below reflects the Class XII floor for that programme.

Maynooth University MBA Admission for Indian Students

The Maynooth University Master of Business Administration (MBA) is a one-year full-time programme run by the School of Business. GMAT or GRE is not required, which is a meaningful cost saving compared with the Trinity or UCD MBA. Indian applicants are assessed on a mix of academic record and work experience.

Maynooth MBA Eligibility for Indian Applicants

  • Full-time MBA: A recognised honours Bachelor’s degree with 50 to 60%+, plus at least 3 years of relevant managerial or professional work experience.
  • Experience substitution: Candidates without a Bachelor’s may be considered on the basis of significant senior managerial experience (typically 8+ years).
  • English proficiency: IELTS 6.5 with no band below 6.0, or the accepted equivalents.

Maynooth MBA Application Steps

Submit the MU Apply form with a CV, two referee contacts, a personal statement outlining career objectives, and degree transcripts. Shortlisted candidates are invited to an interview with the MBA Director, held online for Indian applicants, focused on managerial exposure and post-MBA plans. The full funding for Indian students across MBA and other postgraduate programmes is documented on the scholarships page.

Note: MBA fee, intake dates, and cohort size may change year on year. Confirm on the official Maynooth University MBA course page before applying.

Maynooth University PhD Application Process

PhD entry at Maynooth is supervisor-led: applicants must contact a prospective supervisor in the target Department and secure their in-principle agreement before submitting an application on MU Apply. Applications run rolling through the year, though most funded starts sync to September or January.

Maynooth PhD Requirements

  • Academic floor: A 2:1 honours Bachelor’s degree, or a Master’s degree (Research or Taught with distinction) in a relevant field.
  • Research proposal: 2 to 5 pages outlining research question, methodology, and fit with the target supervisor’s work.
  • English proficiency: IELTS 6.5 or equivalent, unless an English-medium exemption applies.

Maynooth PhD Funding for Indian Students

Maynooth’s flagship research scheme is the John and Pat Hume Doctoral Awards, which cover fees plus a tax-free stipend of approximately EUR 1,500 per month (around INR 1.67 Lakhs). Departmental scholarships and Irish Research Council awards run in parallel. Every funding line is listed on the scholarships page linked in the MBA section above.

Note: PhD stipend rates, scholarship deadlines, and supervisor availability shift each academic year. Confirm on the official Maynooth University graduate studies page before applying.

Maynooth University Application Process

Non-EU applications route through MU Apply, Maynooth’s own online portal. A small set of taught PG programmes and every PhD may alternatively use pac.ie, and the platform to use is stated on each course page. Complete the following seven-step flow for the September 2027 intake, per the official Maynooth admissions page.

  1. Create an account on MU Apply and select your programme code.
  2. Fill in personal, academic, and English proficiency sections; upload passport bio page.
  3. Upload Class XII marksheets (UG), or Bachelor’s transcripts and degree certificate (PG).
  4. Upload IELTS/TOEFL/PTE/DET score report or the English-medium exemption letter.
  5. Upload a Statement of Purpose (500 to 800 words) and 2 recommendation letters.
  6. Pay the application fee of EUR 50 (around INR 5,578) on the MU Apply portal.
  7. Submit and track the application status through the same dashboard.

Maynooth Admission Decisions and Offer Timeline

Offer decisions arrive on a rolling basis, typically 4 to 6 weeks after submission. A conditional offer lists the outstanding items (final transcript, IELTS score, funding proof). Accept the offer and pay the tuition deposit within 4 weeks to receive the letter of acceptance needed for the Ireland D-Study visa. Deferrals of one year are permitted on written request before 31 October of the intake year.

Maynooth University Documents Required for Indian Applicants

Every non-EU application to Maynooth carries the same paperwork bundle. Documents must be in English or accompanied by a certified translation. Bank statements should be dated within 30 days of submission.

  • Passport bio page valid at least 12 months beyond intended arrival.
  • Class XII marksheet and passing certificate for UG applicants.
  • All Bachelor’s semester marksheets plus degree certificate (or provisional certificate) for PG applicants.
  • English test score report: IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, or Duolingo, dated within two years.
  • Statement of Purpose and 2 Letters of Recommendation from academic or professional referees.
  • Updated CV covering education, work experience, projects, and publications.
  • Passport-size photograph and any programme-specific form (portfolio, writing sample, research proposal).
  • Financial documents for the visa stage: bank statements or education-loan sanction letter covering tuition plus EUR 10,000 living expenses.

Maynooth University Acceptance Rate

Maynooth University does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Based on competitive-intake program patterns, admission is estimated between 30 to 40% for the most in-demand postgraduate courses such as MSc Computer Science, MSc Data Science and Analytics, and MSc Business Analytics, and closer to 55 to 65% for wider Arts and Humanities intakes. The rate for Indian applicants tracks similar ranges when English and academic minimums are met.

What Drives a Maynooth Acceptance for Indian Students

Three factors move the needle at Maynooth: a Bachelor’s percentage above the 2:1 honours line (roughly 60% Indian equivalent), an IELTS above 7.0 overall, and a Statement of Purpose that names a research group or module cluster the applicant wants to work with. Indian applicants with well-documented internships in CS or analytics roles have historically improved their odds materially.

Maynooth’s Selectivity Compared with Trinity and UCD

Maynooth’s ranking band places it in the QS 721 to 730 (2027) tier, one step behind Trinity College Dublin and UCD but with a materially higher offer rate for candidates on the Indian 60% Bachelor’s floor. For Indian students prioritising acceptance certainty on a one-year CS or DS masters, Maynooth is a stronger yield than Dublin’s top-tier trio.

Insider note: Recruitment agents often quote acceptance rates over 70% for Maynooth. That figure aggregates lower-demand Arts and Humanities intakes with the sharper CS and Data Science windows and should not be applied to competitive PG programmes.

Ireland Student Visa Process for Indian Students

Indian students admitted to Maynooth apply for the Ireland Long Stay Study Visa (Type D) through the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS) portal, after receiving the letter of acceptance and paying the tuition deposit. The visa fee is EUR 60 (around INR 6,694) for a single-entry visa.

Complete the online AVATS form, print the summary sheet, and courier the documents (passport, letter of acceptance, financial evidence of at least EUR 10,000 (around INR 11.16 Lakhs) in accessible funds, tuition-fee receipt, English proficiency score, and OSHC-equivalent private medical insurance) to the VFS Ireland centre in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, or Kolkata. Processing runs 6 to 8 weeks. On arrival, register with the Garda National Immigration Bureau within 90 days to receive the Irish Residence Permit; the Maynooth International Office runs on-campus registration drives each September.

2026 update: The Irish INIS moved study-visa applications to a fully-digital AVATS submission in July 2026. Indian applicants no longer courier a paper form, only supporting documents. Confirm the current list at the VFS Ireland India website before dispatch.

Tips and Application Checklist for Maynooth University

The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Maynooth University over the last three intakes.

  • Apply by mid-February 2027 for the September 2027 MSc Computer Science and Data Science tracks; seats close before the stated May deadline in most cycles.
  • Request transcripts 8 weeks before deadline from your Indian university’s controller of examinations, since Indian institutions rarely dispatch certified copies quickly.
  • Book IELTS or PTE at least 12 weeks in advance and target IELTS 7.0 overall to sit above the Maynooth CS median.
  • Draft two SOPs, one programme-specific and one general, and reuse the general text across similar Irish applications to save time.
  • Line up two LOR writers and share your CV plus the target programme brief with them at least 3 weeks before submission.
  • Arrange the tuition-fee deposit within 4 weeks of the offer to trigger the letter of acceptance needed for the D-Study visa.
  • Lock the Ireland visa slot at your local VFS centre in the same week the letter of acceptance arrives, since summer slots book out fast.
  • Enroll in the 50% MU International Scholarship automatically at the offer stage; no separate application is required.

Maynooth University sits at a rare intersection of a QS 721 to 730 rank, a 30 to 40% competitive-programme acceptance range, a 92.7% employment outcome, and a one-year taught masters model that keeps total cost of study firmly below Dublin’s top-tier peers, which is why Indian applicants in Computer Science, Data Science, and Business Analytics continue to make it a first-preference choice for September 2027 entry.

Overview

Ireland is a very peaceful and beautiful country .Maynooth University is the best university in Ireland for climate research and hence was the ideal choice for me as I wanted a career in climate sciences and was hoping to undertake a master's abroad. This course ,which I am currently pursuing, M.Sc in climate change is offered by ICARUS (Irish climate analysis and research units) which is a forerunner in climate research in Ireland .The professors teaching us are leading scientists, some of them being lead authors in the intergovernmental panel on climate change (IPCC).What I mostly liked about my course is that it is more learning based .The modules are a blend of science, policies, statistics and data analysis, thus it is interdisciplinary. This is the most attractive feature of the course. Maynooth University has the highest student satisfaction rates and the best international office with a thriving international student community and last but not the least the campus is breathtaking !

Scholarship

yes, I am in receipt of 50% Maynooth University International scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to International students purely on the basis of academic performance throughout ,no separate application is required for this . Additionally there is a 2000 euros taught masters scholarship which requires a separate application in a platform called "PAC". This can only be done if a student has been successfully accepted into a program.
