AICTE, ATAL Academies: 46th Online Faculty Development Programmes to be Inaugurated Today (Nov 23) by Education Minister

All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) is all set to launch 46th online AICTE Training and Learning (ATAL) Academy Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) on November 23, 2020.

The Education Minister, Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank will be the chief guest of the inauguration ceremony.

To impart and upgrade faculty knowledge and skills, the ATAL Academy has launched various Faculty Development Programs under the support of AICTE. 

The education minister stated that the unemployment of engineers raised as a major issue because the students come completely unprepared for the needs of the Industry.

The objective of the new initiative of AITCE is to bridge the gap between students and industry by training the faculties who will guide the students in new emerging areas.

Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said, "In these testing times, AICTE provided an impetus to conduct online ATAL faculty development programs so that no faculty members may lose out training due to the pandemic situation."

Director of ATAL Academy, Dr. Ravindra Kumar Soni said AICTE has taken many initiatives to promote technical education in the country in which ATAL FDPs play a major part.

Prof. Anil D Sahasrabuddhe, Chairman of AICTE stated that the FDP is designed to make the teachers aware of modern teaching tools and methodologies.

It also enhances their teaching skills and provides an opportunity for the teachers to acquire knowledge about current technological developments in relevant fields.

The FDPs promote the professional practices relevant to technical education and motivates the faculty to achieve a competitive teaching and learning environment, said professor Anil.

AICTE constituted a committee under the chairmanship of Dr. B.V.R Mohan Ready Executive Chairman of Cyient and Industrial Bodies, recommended the following courses to be promoted

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Internet of Things
  • Block-chain
  • Robotics
  • Quantum Computing
  • Data Sciences
  • Cyber Security 
  • 3D Printing & Design 
  • Augmented Reality/ Virtual Reality

In 2019-20, over 10,000 participants get benefitted from 185 five-day face-to-face FDPs in nine thrust areas. In 2020-21, new thrust areas in the field of Engineering, Management, Life Skills, Design & Media were included.

The ATAL Academy decided to conduct FDPs in the online mode because online learning has become the new normal because of the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic, said Prof M.P. Poonia, Vice Chairman, AICTE.

AICTE has aimed to benefit over 1 lakh participants by offering 1000 FDPs on thrust areas and other emerging areas. 

Professor Poonia mentioned that 70,000 faculties were already trained by 499 FDPs out of 1000.

The 500th ATAL FDP is going to start along with 46 more ATAL FDPs on November 23, 2020, which will be inaugurated in the presence of the Education Minister.

Premier institutions like IITs, NITs, and IIITs have participated in the FDP organized by AICTE and the training project was well received all over the country.

In the inauguration ceremony, these premier institutes and institutes of national importance will be participating, Member Secretary of AICTE, Prof Rajive Kumar said.

Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee, Dr. Manoj Singh Gaur, Director, IIT Jammu, and Dr. Girdhari Lal Garg, Assistant Director, ATAL CELL will be present at the Inauguration Ceremony.
