New Delhi: Delhi University has announced the size of undergraduate classrooms in its affiliated colleges through an official notification. As per the notice, the university has capped the class for lectures and tutorials at 60 and 30 students respectively.
As per Delhi University, colleges and departments can increase or decrease the class size for undergraduate courses by 20%. However, the class size for various value addition courses and skill enhancement courses will be in the range of 20 to 60 students.
According to the notification, “Colleges may make arrangements for practical classes in a way that the laboratory facilities are put to optimum utilisation”. The total strength of students in general elective papers will be 20 to 60 for lectures and 20 to 30 for tutorials and practicals.
While for Delhi University PG Courses 2023, the class size will be 50 students for lectures, 25 for tutorials and 15-20 students for practical classes. This step has been taken to ensure an effective teaching-learning process and prevent large class batches.
"The Delhi University colleges may decide on mentor and mentee group size as per the relevant provisions of the UGC (University Grants Commission) regulations as applicable from time to time. This number is exclusive of the supernumerary seats," the notification reads.
Informing about the notification, Mithuraaj Dhusiya, a Member of Academic Council (AC) said, "This notification has been issued without any kind of discussion. When it had come up earlier, we had resisted and it had been referred to a sub-committee. The matter is at present as part of the upcoming AC meeting agenda and despite that the notification was issued earlier."
In other news, Delhi University launched a three-month Certificate Course on Patent on May 17, 2023. The course is designed to introduce participants to various forms of Intellectual Property Rights. The last date to apply for admission is June 10, 2023, and the program will begin on July 1, 2023.
