Delhi University has set up a six-member committee to review one-year PG intake for 2026-27. Reports say 30,000 students applied for just 1,100 seats. The panel will submit recommendations within ten days.

The University of Delhi (DU) has constituted a six-member committee to review the intake capacity of its one-year postgraduate (PG) programmes. According to reports, the university received around 30,000 applications for only 1,100 available seats.

The committee will be chaired by the Dean of Academic Affairs and has been directed to submit its recommendations within 10 days. The decision follows a major student protest at the Arts Faculty, where students raised concerns over the limited number of seats.

DU introduced its one-year PG programmes for the 2026-27 academic session under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. For the current admission cycle, only graduates of DU’s Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) are eligible to apply. The university’s first FYUP batch has now become eligible for these master’s programmes.

Why Is There a Seat Crunch This Year?

The one-year PG programme was introduced as part of the academic reforms implemented under NEP 2020. The programme is designed for students who have completed a four-year undergraduate degree.

In the 2026-27 admission cycle, DU’s first batch of FYUP graduates became eligible for these courses. This significantly increased the number of students competing for admission.

However, the expansion of seats across departments has reportedly not kept pace with the rising demand. At present, only select DU departments and programmes offer the one-year master’s option, resulting in strong competition for the limited seats.

With around 30,000 applications for 1,100 seats, approximately 27 candidates are competing for each available seat.

How to Apply for DU One-Year PG 2026?

Admissions to DU’s one-year PG programmes are conducted through the Common Seat Allocation System for Postgraduate Admissions (CSAS-PG). Eligible candidates must register using their CUET PG 2026 scores.

Open the CSAS-PG admission dashboard.
Register on the PG portal at pgportal.uod.ac.in using the required CUET PG credentials.
Enter personal, academic and programme-related details.

Upload the required documents, including the FYUP marksheets or transcripts.
Pay the applicable application fee through the online payment gateway.
Review all the entered details and submit the application form.
