New Delhi: Delhi University(DU) has received approval to start PhD in Fine Arts program from the next academic year. In addition to this, the Executive Council (EC) of Delhi University granted a one-time age relaxation for voting and participating in elections for student unions.
For the DUSU elections in 2023, the deadline to submit candidature forms, a demand draft for INR 500, and an affidavit is September 12, 2023. The nomination documents are accessible on du.ac.in, the university's official website.
The university's top decision-making body, the Executive Council’s meeting was held on August 25, 2023. As per Delhi University (DU), "This year the maximum age limit has been increased from 22 years to 25 years for undergraduate students and 25 years to 28 years for postgraduate students”.
Delhi University PhD in Fine Arts 2023: Eligibility Criteria
During the meeting, the DU Faculty of Music and Fine Arts received approval to launch PhD programs in the fine arts for the academic session 2023–2024. Additionally, the Department of Commerce is introducing a new MBA (Business Analytics) curriculum with 76 initial openings.
To be eligible for PhD program and submit the dissertation or thesis, a PhD student must receive a minimum of 55% of the possible points, nine credits, or its equivalent grade on the UGC 7-point scale in the course work. The teaching work per credit is four hours.
In addition, the Executive Council of Delhi University approved the Value Addition Courses (VAC) Committee's recommendations, and from the academic year 2022–2023, Vedic Mathematics–III, Vedic Mathematics–IV, and National Cadet Corps–III will be offered.
RDC Advisory Committee to Include Five Committees
Apart from this, the creation of numerous committees was advised for the organisational design of the Research and Development Cell (RDC) of DU to support the culture of research. Five distinct committees will make up the RDC Advisory Committee, it added.
The recommendations presented at the Academic Council (AC) meeting were taken into consideration during the EC meeting. The UG Curriculum Framework-2022 (UGCF-2022) fourth, fifth, and sixth semester schedules for several departments and colleges were authorised.
According to UGCF-2022, Learning Material (SLM) was also approved during the EC meeting for School of Open Learning (SOL) students under the Department of Distance and Continuing Education.
The Council also resolved that an expert group will study the SLM of SOL in light of the recommendations made by the Academic Council members. The next meeting of the Academic Council will feature the presentation of the updated/revised SLM.
Additionally, it said that the projected registration cost for SC/ST and PWBD students enrolled in the five-year Integrated Law Program has been decreased from INR 1,200 to INR 1,000.
The papers based on the UGCF-2022's Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC) were also accepted. These include Public Health, Hygiene, and Nutrition, as well as the Basics of Food Science and Nutrition, Basic Forensic Science, Basic Laboratory Techniques, and others.
After completing these courses, students will be able to find employment in a variety of fields, such as food and drug evaluation centres, according to Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh. They would also be permitted to start their own firm, according to the statement, PTI said.
Regarding the new five-year Integrated Law programs' fees, Vice Chancellor claimed that the institution would continue to waive up to 90% of those costs for students from households earning less than INR 4 lakh per year.
He informed the EC that such students could also receive aid through the Financial Support Scheme for Economically Weak Students. Additionally, he mentioned that children whose parents earn between INR 4 and INR 8 lakh will receive a 50% fee waiver.
Delhi University will also pay up to INR 50,000 in laptop expenses for students enrolled in the five-year Integrated Law program. The EC approved the rules for internships, apprenticeships, and community service, which will be in effect from semesters three to six of UGCF 2022.
Accordingly, the college should have a prior Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with subject-specific commercial and non-commercial organisations or companies, as well as industry, before beginning the apprenticeship or internship.
The number of seats for apprenticeship/internship training may be decided by the college based on the infrastructure and facilities that are available.
DUSU Election 2023: How To File Nomination?
The sealed box held in the DU, Office of the Chief Election Officers is where the prescribed nomination forms for DUSU office bearers should be placed. On any working day from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the DUSU Elections 2023–24 will be held at the specified address.
Elections for the DUSU are conducted directly by varsity and member college students. They typically take place in August and September. The college elections are held concurrently with those for the student government at the varsity. The elections for over 500 positions draw about 2,500 student candidates.
