GATE 2027 Registration Begins Today at gate2027.iitm.ac.in; Check Last Date to Apply

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has opened the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 registration window today. Candidates can apply through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) at gate2027.iitm.ac.in. The last date to apply without a late fee is September 27, 2026. Registration with a late fee will remain open until October 5, 2026.

GATE 2027 will be conducted jointly by IISc Bengaluru and the seven older IITs, with IIT Madras as the organising institute this cycle. The exam offers 30 test papers, including a newly introduced Robotics and Automation (RA) paper. Registration through DigiLocker has been made mandatory for all Indian nationals.

The application fee applies per paper. Candidates opting for more than one paper must pay separately for each. The fee is non-refundable once paid.

Who Is Eligible to Apply?

Candidates currently in the third year or higher of any undergraduate degree in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, arts, or humanities are eligible. Candidates who have already completed a government-approved degree in these fields can also apply.

There is no minimum percentage or CGPA requirement to appear for GATE 2027. However, individual institutes accepting the scorecard for admissions or recruitment may set their own cut-offs.

How to Register for GATE 2027?

Candidates must first create or update a verified DigiLocker account before starting the application. The registration flow on GOAPS then asks for personal details, academic details, choice of paper, and choice of exam city.

After filling the form, candidates upload their photograph, signature, and required documents. The final step is fee payment through net banking, debit card, credit card, or UPI. The submitted application must be printed and preserved for future reference.

What Is New in GATE 2027?

IIT Madras has introduced a new Robotics and Automation (RA) paper, taking the total number of test papers to 30. The syllabus has been revised across several subjects, and sectional codes for XE, XH, and XL papers have been updated. Candidates should review the latest syllabus before starting preparation.
