November 20, 2020: Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) tweeted the State’s decision to cancel reopening of schools and colleges from November 23 due to increasing COVID-19 cases in the state. New dates for reopening educational institutions are yet to be announced by the State Government.
An official tweet by the CMO of Gujarat reads, “Gujarat Govt decides to postpone the reopening of schools and colleges in Gujarat from November 23 in the wake of the current Coronavirus situation.”

Gujarat government has also decided to reapply night curfew in Ahmedabad as a part of restrictions laid down to restrain the spreading of coronavirus.
Earlier, the Gujarat Government decided to reopen secondary schools and colleges from November 23. The educational institutions have not functioned since March following the widespread COVID-19 pandemic.
On November 11, 2020, the State Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chaudasma had announced State’s decision to reopen the schools for Class 9 to 12 students and colleges for final year students.
Consequently, the Gujarat government issued important guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the reopening of schools and colleges. Educational institutions were directed to follow precautionary measures during the reopening of the campuses.
Haryana Government had also decided to shut down schools in three districts. The decision was however taken when about 150 students were found COVID positive after reopening. Haryana Government had reopened schools for Class 6th to 9th on October 15.
Likewise, due to the rising number of cases across the state of Uttarakhand, the State government has also decided to postpone its decision to reopen colleges across the state.
