As per recent updates from the Government of Gujarat, secondary schools and colleges will be reopening from November 23, 2020.

Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, Education Minister of Gujarat stated that schools will be reopening for classes 9 to 12 for the first time since being shut down in March following to the widespread of COVID-19 pandemic. The schools will resume soon after the Diwali vacations.

However, he also stated in the cabinet meeting that attendance is not compulsory as of now, and students will not be mandated to visit school for offline classes if they are unable to. Online classes will continue to be conducted for students who wish to attend classes from their homes.

He also mentioned that the decision to reopen schools for classes 1-8 is yet to be made and will be informed when the time is right.

The Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines issued by the Central Government are to be followed to reopen the schools and while conducting offline classes.

School authorities will have to acquire written consent from the parents of students in order to ask them to attend offline classes. Students, faculty and staff will be required to wear masks at all times.

All premises of schools and colleges will be completely sanitized and hygiene will be maintained as a priority.

Sharing of food and water among students will now be permitted and social distancing will be a must. All students will be required to maintain a 6 feet distance from each other. Schools are also recommended to alternate between odd and even dates. In this case, half of the students will be asked to come on even dates and the other half will be called on odd dates, reducing the risk of transmission.

Teachers can assign homework to students won the days when they are not visiting for offline classes.
