Haryana Government Increases Medical Education Fee; Move Criticised by Many

Government of Haryana has announced the revised fee for medical courses in the state run colleges. It is noted that the fee for Medical courses has increased.

Randeep Singh Surjewala, AICC general secretary was against this decision of the government because it would shatter the dreams of many medical aspirants belonging to poor families.

Surjewala, in an online press conference slammed the Haryana Government for raising the fees in government medical colleges.

He claimed that there is a massive increase in the annual fees of government medical colleges of Haryana from INR 70,000 to INR 10 lakh. 

Surjewala also stated that with this increase of INR 10 Lakh per year, the annual fee will be INR 40 lakh for the full course of four years.

The secretary, Surjewala asserted that every MBBS student will have to pay INR 3.71 lakh fees in four years and then pay an additional INR 36,28,270 for the loan amount according to the revised fee structure.

He further stated that until now the MBBS fees was only INR 53,000 per annum with an extra hostel fee of INR 15,000 to INR 20,000, precising the total education fee to be about INR 3 lakh only.

However, CM Manohar Lal Khattar said that the fee has been raised “marginally”, adding that “there had been no increase in the fee for several years.” 

The official circular mentioned that the State Government has put forward a policy in regards to incentivising doctors’ professions so that they seek medical services in government medical colleges and public health institutions of Haryana Government.

The Government stated that under this policy, a candidate selected for the MBBS degree course should pay an annual bond worth INR 10 lakh at the beginning of each year. 

The students can pay the bond amount themselves, or they will also be given a choice of taking the education loan for the bond amount. 

The circular also stated that the state government will repay the installments in case the candidate joins the public health institution after the completion of the MBBS course.
