In a recent conversation with its network of alumni, the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta’s Board of Governors responded to the previously pointed out instances of mismanagement and misgovernance.

The BoG of IIMC Kolkata assured that the institute is considering a number of important structural changes and advancements in the governance, management, academic function, and execution of various processes.
Previously, IIMC had faced a number of allegations over its inability to properly govern, its lack of efficiency and delay in action on numerous occasions.
These allegations came into the picture when several reports, messages, and instances relating to individuals in high positions at the institute had started to circulate over WhatsApp and other social media.

Under normal circumstances, any such circulation of unverified information is considered invalid and false. However, in this case, the content of the messages and information that had been making rounds on social media caught the attention of higher authorities.
It was stated that any important alteration or change is necessary to keep the institution at par with other prestigious institutes, and hence the change is completely warranted.
Highlighting the importance of change and progress, the BoG referred to the IIM Act 2019 which is attributed to elevating and advancing the IIM Group to bring its centers to global attention and attract potential students globally. The Act also mandates these systemic changes in governance and structure for the benefit of the institution.
