IIT Bombay: Students Duo launch AI Scanner and Reader after To Eradicate Problems after Banning of CamScanner App

The AI (Artificial Intelligence) Reading Assistant and Document Scanner app is developed by Rohit Kumar Chaudhary and Kavin Agrawal, both IIT Bombay students.

Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for Atma Nirbhar Bharat, two final year students of B.Tech Civil Engineering at IIT Bombay, AIR Scanner launched a free-of-cost document scanning mobile application.

The AI (Artificial Intelligence) Reading Assistant and Document Scanner app is developed by Rohit Kumar Chaudhary and Kavin Agrawal, both IIT Bombay students.

According to the release of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) issued on Sunday, the app was launched on 15 August as an indigenous alternative to the ban on Chinese counterparts.

"Initially, we worked on developing an app to make the reading experience easier for people who find it hard to read English. It was then that the Indian government forbade many Chinese apps, including mobile scanner apps, "said Chaudhary, one of the developers.

He added that, following the ban on the Chinese app called CamScanner, both developers surveyed and found that people are facing challenges in scanning and organizing documents through their mobile phones.

"It was then that we decided to add scanning features to our existing AIR App," Chaudhary added.

As per Chaudhary, its exclusive security features are what makes its app special.

"The AIR Scanner app does not collect any information about the user, and all documents are stored in the local phone store. We do not use any cloud storage to store users' documents. The app guarantees complete user safety, "he said.

According to the release, the document scanned using a mobile camera will be saved in PDF format and will only be stored on the device.

Talking about the motivation behind innovation, Chaudhary said that he wanted to help people in education.

"As of now, it's only available in English, but we're planning to make it available in multiple languages, making it easy for anyone to read any language. Soon, we 're planning to turn this project into a Start-Up," he said.

Chaudhary added that the app is currently only available to Android users but will soon be released to iOS users as well.
