IIT Kanpur and the African-Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO) have joined hands to organize an international training program, which was held between November 10 and 19, 2023.

IIT Kanpur Collaborates with AARDO for International Training on Nanotechnology in Sustainable Agriculture

New Delhi: IIT Kanpur partnered with the African-Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO) to host an international training program focusing on the role of Nanotechnology in plant growth and crop protection for sustainable agriculture.

The IIT Kanpur training program was conducted from November 10 to 19, 2023, which served as a forum for experts across diverse fields to discuss potential solutions addressing the urgent global need for ensuring food security and sustainability in agriculture

Prof. S Ganesh, Officiating Director at IIT Kanpur Faculty, expressed that the program serves as a confluence of ideas and innovations, showcasing the transformative potential of nanotechnology in sustainable agricultural practices. He conveyed his pride in hosting the international event and expressed confidence that the shared insights would contribute significantly to advancing toward a more sustainable and technologically advanced agricultural future.

Professor J. Ramkumar, who serves as the Coordinator for ImLab, MedTech Lab, and RuTAG at IIT Kanpur, and is associated with the Department of Mechanical Engineering & Design, mentioned that the partnership between AARDO and IIT Kanpur will create fresh opportunities for research and development in the field of agriculture

The workshop's diverse range of topics, spanning from microbial products in agriculture to the impact of biodegradable carbon-based nanomaterials on crop protection, underscores the significant potential of nanotechnology in revolutionizing sustainable agricultural practices, Ramkumar added.

Commencing with an inaugural session led by Prof. S V Shukla, the training program initiated a week of informative sessions and enlightening discussions. The topics explored spanned from the contribution of nanomaterials in establishing a sustainable microclimate for horticulture to the potential applications of nano-biotechnology in enhancing plant nutrition. 

Noteworthy sessions included discussions on smart agricultural practices, sustainable chemistry for crop growth, and the utilization of drones and agrivoltaic systems in agriculture.
