IIT Kanpur initiates fundraising campaign to provide laptops to 600 students for online education

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has initiated a fundraising campaign for the students facing financial meltdown in the prevailing pandemic situation.

The IIT Kanpur aims at resolving hardware issues and to provide laptop and internet subscriptions to the students belonging to economically deprived sections.

The board at IIT Kanpur has decided to conduct the online classes for the entire first semester of 2020-21 academic session, as the situation is worsening and COVID cases are rising across the country.

However, the institute forecasted the technical issues and hence has begun implementing the strategies in favor of the students, so as to avoid any obstructions during the learning processes.

IIT Kanpur's fundraising section on the official website reads, "We have 600 students who cannot afford necessary hardware like laptops and a broadband connection to take3 online education. The estimated cost of each laptop and the broadband connection is approximately INR 50,000."

To cover the expenses, the institute requires nearly 3 crores, for which the campaign has been initiated. Earlier IIT Kanpur also raised funds of over INR 64 lakhs for workers on campus.
