IIT Kanpur To Provide Free Data Science Courses Online; Get Details Here

IIT Kanpur has declared that it will start offering new data science courses on its SWAYAM NPTEL platform. This announcement came even as they had previously started a statistics course for the lockdown period.

The course by IIT Kanpur will have 2 parts-probability and statistical inference in part 1 and sampling theory and linear regression analysis in part 2. These courses will be provided on SWAYAM which is a government of India programme to provide teaching resources to everyone including the poor.

SWAYAM has been considered as a bridge to bring the educational sector online and close the digital divide between the people. 

What Will Be Covered In The Course?

As intimated by the institute, the first part of the course is made for UG students of science and engineering backgrounds. This would also require the applicant to have some basic beforehand knowledge of mathematics and statistics. This course would also be beneficial for students with an analytical background.

The course covers statistical tools which are required to work on data and find hidden insights and the basic fundamentals of probability. Statistical inference which is an invariable important part of the data science domain would also be covered.

Meanwhile, the second part of the course includes regression analysis and sampling theory. Applicants would also be taught the popular R statistical software. They’d be taught about R, random sampling and linear regress with R, linear models, and many other related topics. 

Applicants will only be able to take the second part of the course if they are successfully able to clear the first part.

Other Related Details 

The courses are supposed to be over 12 weeks each which would bring the total duration to around 6 months. The courses will be started on 18 January and will last till 9 April 2021. Applicants who apply for the courses will be provided with a certificate.

However, the certificate will only be provided to those candidates who successfully clear the exam conducted by IIT Kanpur on April 25 after paying a fee of INR 1000. The course is conducted by Dr. Shalabh who has over 23 years of teaching experience in the data science field.
