New Delhi: As per the latest updates, the Centre for Responsible AI (CeRAI) of IIT Madras has joined hands with Ericsson for joint research in the area of Responsible AI. Ericsson signed the agreement to partner with CeRAI as a ‘platinum consortium member’ for five years.
IIT Madras in an official statement said that the CeRAI is an interdisciplinary research centre aiming to become a premier research center for fundamental and applied research in responsible AI. Research in this field is of high importance to Ericsson as AI algorithms will automatically drive the 6G networks in communication.
Dean of the Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research at IIT Madras, Manu Santhanam, said, “Research on AI will produce the tools for operating tomorrow’s businesses. IIT Madras strongly believes in impactful translational work in collaboration with the industry, and we are very happy to collaborate with Ericsson to do cutting-edge research and development in the field.”
IIT Madras to Research in 6G Networks
Informing about this initiative, Magnus Frodigh, Global Head of Ericsson Research, said, “6G and future networks aim to seamlessly blend the physical and digital worlds, enabling immersive AR/VR experiences”.
“While AI-controlled sensors connect humans and machines, responsible AI practices are essential to ensure trust, fairness, and privacy compliance. Our partnership with CERAI at IIT Madras is aligned with the Indian Government’s vision for the Bharat 6G program”, he added.
After the agreement signing ceremony, a symposium on ‘responsible AI for networks of the future’ was organised. The panellists at the symposium are R David Koilpillai, Qualcomm Institute chair professor, IIT Madras and Arun Rajkumar, Core Member of CeRAI.
Additionally, Harish Guruprasad, Core Member, Cerai; Jorgen Gustafsson, Head of AI at Ericsson Research; Kaushik Dey, Research Leader in AI/MI, Ericsson Research India; Catrin Granbom, Head of Cloud Systems And Platforms, Ericsson Research were also present.
