IIT Roorkee Develops AI Driven Commercial Drugs for COVID-19 Treatment; Details Here

IIT-Roorkee Scientists have introduced a commercial drug by using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology that will help fight COVID-19. 

In the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT R), a group of scientists have introduced commercial drugs with the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology that will be helpful in fighting against the Covid-19 virus. 

According to the IIT-R official statement, the machine learning (ML) model based on the Bayes Algorithm was used to predict 10-FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved commercial drugs that can be used for the treatment of COVID-19. 

However, many of the drugs that were predicted are already being used for the treatment of COVID-19, while many of them are still in trials, he said.

As per the statement, IIT-R Professor Soumitra Satapathi was leading the group of scientists. They have incorporated AI to predict 10-FDA approved drugs that are available for the treatment of COVID-19. 

Also, the study has been published in the esteemed IIT-R journal PLOS One. Sovesh Mohapatra, Prathul Nath, Deepjyoti Kalita, Neeladrisingha Das, Partha Roy, and Manisha Chatterjee were the co-authors of the study. 

Further, the statement read that the complexity in drug design and protocols related to the clinical trials inhibit the process of developing different combinations of drugs for the disease. 

However, the scientists at IIT-R have successfully developed commercial drugs through machine learning-based-AI, for the treatment of COVID-19.

Professor Satapathi, principal investigator and an associate professor of physics in IIT-R said that the study has predicted nearly 10-FDA approved commercial drugs that can be used to treat the virus. 

As of now, the current approach will certainly save a lot of resources and time that will be consumed for synthesizing novel drugs. Hence it can be useful in the majority of the medical research community.
