On August 19, 2020 the Ace Engineering Institute announced the collaboration of IIT Roorkee and the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).for standardization and conformity assessment based on equality and reciprocity.

The MoU signed between the two specifies the collaboration in various fields of research and the ownership of intellectual property like confidential information, know-how, and patents will be vested with entities responsible for its development.
Expressing the delight of collaboration with BIS, IIT Roorkee Prof. Ajit K Chaturvedi said that they are happy with the tie-up and are ready to contribute to the country's endeavor to ensure standardization and conformity assessment. In case the property is developed jointly, both the parties will be entitled to joint ownership, informed IIT Roorkee.
Both the institutes will take up research and development projects related to standardization and conformity assessment, at both national and international levels, accordingly organize joint seminars, conferences, workshops symposia or lectures, and exchange publications and other literature of common interest.

Director-General of BIS, Pramod Kumar Tiwari also said in this regard, "As a national Standards Body, we are excited to partner in their journey to move a step ahead so as to benefit national standardization and we are eager to join hands in promoting standards and integration with the curriculum."
Regarding the costs and revenue sharing, marketing, commercialization, and prosecution, the MoU is most likely to be amended at a later date. The reports also suggest that the BIS might extend financial support to establish a Chair at IIT Roorkee, in the field of Standardization and Conformity Assessment.
