Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Tirupati) has opened admissions for its M.Tech Self-Sponsored programme for the academic year 2026-27. The online application portal is now open and will remain active until June 8, 2026 at 5:00 PM. This is a unique opportunity for candidates who do not have a valid GATE score but wish to pursue a Master's degree in Technology from a premier IIT. The M.Tech Self-Sponsored programme is designed for working professionals and other eligible candidates seeking advanced technical education. How to Apply?

Visit iittp.ac.in and navigate to the M.Tech Self-Sponsored Admission page. Click on "Apply Online" link. Create a new account with your email ID and password. Fill in your personal details including name, date of birth, contact information, and address. Enter your educational qualifications and marks obtained. Upload required documents (mark sheets, certificates, ID proof). Select your preferred specialization/area. Review all details carefully. Pay the application fee online. Submit your application. Download and save your confirmation receipt with application number.

Eligibility Criteria and M.Tech Specializations

Candidates applying for the IIT Tirupati M.Tech Self-Sponsored programme 2026-27 must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology from a recognized university or a Bachelor’s degree in Science with a relevant academic background, along with the minimum marks or CGPA specified by the institute.

No prior work experience is mandatory, although working professionals are encouraged to apply. One of the key advantages of this programme is that a valid GATE score is not required for admission under the self-sponsored category. There is no upper age limit, while applicants must be at least 18 years old.

The programme is primarily open to Indian citizens, while NRI/OCI candidates may also be eligible as per the institute’s official guidelines. IIT Tirupati M.Tech Self-Sponsored Selection Process

  • Application Screening: All submitted applications will first be screened to verify eligibility criteria and document completeness. Only shortlisted candidates will be invited to the next stage.
  • Written Test: Shortlisted applicants will have to appear for an objective-type written examination designed to assess their technical knowledge and aptitude. The exam duration and syllabus will be announced by the institute later.
  • Personal Interview: Candidates who qualify in the written test will be called for a personal interview, where the institute will evaluate their communication skills, motivation, and technical understanding.
  • Merit List Preparation: The final merit list will be prepared based on candidates’ performance in the written test and personal interview. The exact weightage for each stage will be notified by IIT Tirupati.
  • Final Admission: Candidates selected in the merit list will be offered admission to the programme, and the campus reporting schedule will be announced separately by the institute.
