Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University announced the appointment of 161 new teaching faculty members through direct recruitment. Under the period of the current vice chancellor Najma Akhtar, these posts have been filled in the JMI.

New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University announced the appointment of 161 new teaching faculty members through direct recruitment. Under the period of the current vice chancellor Najma Akhtar, these posts have been filled in the JMI.
Vice-Chancellor Najma Akhtar's tenure at Jamia Millia Islamia has been characterized by a strong emphasis on diversity and inclusivity. These teachers have been appointed with 154 proper selection committees. There were 53 woman faculty members. The university has appointed 698 staff members, including teaching and non-teaching posts, under Direct recruitment and promotion schemes.

The University has promoted 372 teaching faculty to the posts of professors and associate Professors and also promoted 160 assistant professors to associate professors (stage 2 and stage 3) during the period. In the above categories, a total of 131 woman members of the teaching faculty have been promoted. These promotions were made under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) and dynamic assured career progression (DACP) Scheme.
The university said that during covid-19 pandemic, JMI has appointed with proper selection committee to ensure a smooth recruitment and promotion process.
VC Najma Akhtar stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has instructed the university to efficiently choose and hire personnel across various categories through a mission-mode recruitment process.

She added, “It is the first and foremost duty of the VC to give the university the best members of teaching faculty and non-teaching staff.”
JMI Ranked second among Indian institutes in the London-based Times Higher Education's World University Rankings 2024. The institution has been positioned in the 501 to 600 band by the International ranking agency for the second consecutive year.
