Schools in Jharkhand will not be reopening from September 21, 2020 due to the non-forwarding of the drafted proposal to the state disaster management by the Secondary Education Wing of State Education and literacy.
The Education Department of the state previously decided on resuming the physical classes for classes 9 to 12 from September 21 for doubt clearing sessions only.
Earlier Unlock 4.0 guidelines mentioned the partial reopening of schools for classes 9th to 12th with proper COVID measures. The guideline also mentions that students can reach out to their respective schools for any guidance needed, however, the areas should fall out of containment zones.
JEPC Drafted Proposal for School Reopening
With these guidelines by the central Government, the Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC) drafted a proposal that stated that only 20 students must be there in a class on a particular date with overall 50% teaching staff availability in the school.
The proposal was sent to The Secondary Education Wing which did not send the same to the state disaster management department.

Secondary education wing director Jatashankar Choudhary revealed his plans of not reopening the schools till September 30 and it will be resumed only after the control of COVID cases.
However, a survey was taken to assess parents’ take on reopening of schools and found that 31.74% of parents wanted the schools to reopen after the release of the COVID vaccine while 28.7% guardians felt the need to reopen schools.
At present there is a tremendous improvement in COVID-19 cases in Jharkhand, the recovery rate stands at 78%. Apart from Jharkhand, states like Assam, Meghalaya, Jammu & Kashmir have accepted the Central Government’s decision of school reopening while states like Delhi, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh have denied the same.
