Karnataka: Department of Higher Education has formulated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as per UGC guidelines on November 09, 2020. SOP’s have been issued in view of the reopening of degree, diploma, and engineering colleges from November 17, 2020.
Dr. CN Ashwatha Narayana, Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Higher Education Department said that the preparation to enable the start of off-line classes is ongoing.
He further added, “The SOP has separate advisories set for the students of the final year and the classes will be conducted accordingly. Likewise, there are separate advisories set for the students of first and second-year students of the courses.”

As per the guidelines of the health department and present advisories, social distance has to be maintained while conducting the physical classes. The physical distancing measures would be followed on the basis of the total number of students and the availability of classrooms.
The Department further added that if any student wishes to skip attending physical classes, offline facilities will be provided to such students.
PG and final year students wishing to attend the physical classes shall bring the parent’s consent letter in the prescribed duly signed by them.

DHE Karnataka: Standard Operating Procedures
The institutions and colleges who are in the process of reopening physical classes are directed to follow the SOP formulated by DHE. Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) issued by the Health Ministry are as follows::
- Teaching, practical, and project classes should be conducted on a shift system.
- To facilitate students to clarify any doubts and resolve issues of such students with regard to any topics, contact classes should be conducted every day.
- While conducting the contact classes, social distance has to be maintained based on the total number of students and the available number of classrooms. Hence, the timetable has to be prepared at the college level itself.
- Faculty must prepare the study materials monthly basis for each period or session.
- Faculty members are also directed to compulsorily send the study materials to concerned students via Telegram/ WhatsApp/E-mail.
- It is mandatory for the faculty members to upload the study material on the official website of the colleges.
- Study materials should be in the form of video Lectures, PowerPoint Presentations, E-Notes, E-Books, Audio Books, Practice Questions.
- Students who will attend online/ contact classes can stay in hostels located on-campus or off-campus. This rule is not for the Post-graduate and final year students.
Additionally, there are general guidelines that the college must initiate which include cleansing of buildings, entrance, furniture, teaching materials by sanitizers.
It is mandatory for the college to regularly organize COVID-19 tests of teaching faculty, students, and non-teaching staff, and others.
