Lucknow University to Centralize Admissions for 170 Colleges

For the first time in its history, Lucknow University will hold centralized admissions for affiliated colleges. The process will be akin to that of Delhi University (DU). However, unlike DU, the system will be optional for colleges.

On 2 July, Lucknow University sent a proposal to all of its 170 affiliated colleges. Colleges accepting the proposal will have to pay 50,000 INR each for admissions in regular undergraduate and postgraduate courses and 100,000 INR for self-financing courses. Colleges not willing to accept the system have to hold their admission process separately.

Meanwhile, students and faculty have been protesting against the holding of examinations by the university.

Thanks to the centralized system, candidates will now only have to fill only one admission form instead of spending a lot of money buying forms from different colleges. Moreover, LU will declare a merit list and conduct counselling for admissions. Candidates will get all relevant information from a single place.

The centralized system will also put an end to anomalies in admissions. If successful, the move will help the university generate extra revenue. Colleges have to respond by 5 July.

There is one snag, however. Many colleges have already started their admission process. These colleges may not opt for the centralized process, as they would then have to refund the application form fees to the candidates.

The procedure itself is simple. All candidates applying for admission to Lucknow University will be given the option of admission to colleges during the counselling process, depending on the availability of seats in a particular institute. It will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Paperwork will be reduced dramatically since all centralized information about the candidates will be maintained.
