Why Has MCC Delayed the Choice Locking Window?

MCC has linked the disruption to a National Medical Commission (NMC) notification. The NMC letter number U11021/24204/PwBD/2026/UGMEB, dated August 5, 2026, concerns seat data for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) candidates. The same letter had earlier pushed the choice filling start from August 6 to August 8. The new delay signals that further seat matrix updates are still under process.

How to Lock Choices When the Window Reopens?

Candidates who have filled preferences should not edit choices in a rush. Use the locking facility only after MCC posts the revised timeline. Follow these steps once the window is live again.

  1. Log in to the MCC portal with your NEET UG 2026 roll number and password.
  2. Open the Choice Filling and Locking dashboard on your account.
  3. Review the order of college and course preferences carefully.
  4. Click Lock Choices and confirm using the OTP sent to your mobile.
  5. Download the locked choice list PDF for your personal records.

If a candidate skips manual locking, the system will auto-lock filled preferences at the cut-off time.

Why This Matters

Choice locking is the final step that fixes a candidate's college and course order. Any delay pushes the seat allotment result and reporting dates back. This can also shift Round 2 registration for lakhs of NEET UG aspirants across India.

Action Plan for Candidates

  1. Refresh the MCC portal at mcc.nic.in for the revised locking notice.
  2. Keep your login credentials and NEET UG 2026 admit card handy.
  3. Finalise your college and course preference order in offline notes today.
  4. Arrange scanned copies of Class 10, Class 12, category and PwBD certificates.
  5. Do not lock choices until MCC publishes the fresh deadline.
