Technopark IIT Kanpur in collaboration with The TiE UP Chapter discussed the various challenges faced by the Indian Medium and Small Enterprises (MSME) in an era of globalisation. They also discussed the various solutions to increase the growth of such companies.

Specifically, collaboration opportunities and support by IIT Kanpur were discussed for technical solutions and product innovation. Ms. Reema Mittal, The Chief Operation Officer of Technopark IIT Kanpur was the main speaker at the event.

She reiterated the founding principles of IIT Kanpur which believed in pushing the technological boundaries by increasing innovation to increasing the value chain from the first step to the last. This would help the MSMEs achieve higher levels of Technological Readiness (TRLs).

Owing to the current scenario, the discussion was held online through a webinar. This program was initially conceived under the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat’ programme and as such is supported by the government of India. This is one of the many efforts made by the government to accelerate industrialization.

The aim of this programme was to increase the level of academic-industry collaboration and take them to higher levels. Any MSME or company is free to engage with Technopark by setting up an R&D center on its campus or by being a part of its affiliated membership programme.

By collaborating with Technopark, the MSMEs will be free to avail the research-driven ecosystem of IIT Kanpur built through the efforts of over 6 years. This would also ease the process of recruitment for companies as they would be able to admit top recruits from the IIT more easily. 

Three more speakers joined the second half of the session. This included leading faces of industry Mr.Kunal Kasera of TruFarm, Mr.Ansar Lone of VTOL Aviation, and Mr. Anuj Awasthi of Kanopy Techno Solutions. They all shared their experience and provided an insight as to how their companies are working. 

The closing remarks came from Prof. Avinash Kumar Agarwal, the professor in charge of Technopark. He remarked about the aims of Technopark and how many companies and MSMEs are eager to work with the institute.
