Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray, on Thursday (20 August 2020) asked his authorities to create an expert panel for discussing on implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in the state.
At the meeting, Maharashtra CM said that the new reforms brought by the NEP 2020, will require modifying several existing laws.

An official statement from the Chief Minister’s Office CMO reads, “The need of the hour is to have a discussion with researchers, education experts to discuss the policy, which has only been announced so far.”

He added the state government will require understanding what changes can be made and the news laws to be framed accordingly.
Thackeray also claimed for bridging the gap between offline and online education system amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The CMO also tweeted, “CM Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray in a meeting to discuss the new National Education Policy instructed to appoint a committee consisting of education experts and practitioners to systematically approach the implementation of the National Education Policy in the state.”
He even advised his officials to verify with the central government whether the academic year can be shifted to January-December.

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 as approved by the Cabinet Ministry has replaced 34 years old National Policy on Education.

The NEP reflects ambitious transitions in the educational spectrum of India which may even result in modifying several existing laws. The policy also targets of 50% of Gross Enrollment Ratio by 2035 paving the way for transforming India into a global knowledge hub.
