IIM Mumbai Admission Process
MBA Admission (All 3 Specialisations)
All three MBA specialisations at IIM Mumbai share a single CAT-based selection process. The institute does not participate in the IIM Common Admission Process (CAP). An offer from IIM Mumbai is standalone and must be accepted independently, with no transfer possible through CAP.
Eligibility requires a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/PwD) from a UGC-recognised university. Final-year students who complete graduation before programme commencement are also eligible. Work experience is not mandatory but carries positive weightage in shortlisting and the final composite score.
The selection process follows three stages:
- Stage 1 - CAT Screening: General category minimum is 85 overall percentile, with sectional minimums of 80 VARC, 80 DILR, and 75 QA. NC-OBC and EWS minimum is 75 overall. SC minimum is 70 overall. ST minimum is 65 overall. Actual operating cutoffs are higher based on applicant volume each cycle.
- Stage 2 - PI Shortlisting: Shortlisting for the PI considers CAT score, academic record, work experience, and gender diversity factor combined.
- Stage 3 - Personal Interview: No GD or WAT is conducted. Only a PI is held, across multiple cities. The PI carries 20% weight in the final composite score.
The final composite score weights are: CAT 60%, PI 20%, and a combined 20% for Academic record, Work Experience, and Gender Diversity. Reservation follows Government of India norms: EWS 10%, NC-OBC 27%, SC 15%, ST 7.5%, PwD 5%.
Executive Programmes Admission (PGPEX, PGPEX-VLM, EMBA, BPGP)
All executive programmes require a minimum of 5 years of full-time work experience alongside a graduation degree with 50% marks. PGPEX accepts CAT or GMAT. PGPEX-VLM - a joint manufacturing leadership programme with partner IITs - requires an Engineering degree plus GMAT or GATE. EMBA tracks accept GMAT or an institute-level test. Each programme has an independent PI round. Application windows for the current cycle are published at iimmumbai.ac.in.
PhD Admission
PhD eligibility requires a Master’s degree with 55% marks or a Bachelor’s degree with 60% marks plus relevant work experience. Selection is through CAT, GMAT, or UGC/CSIR JRF, followed by a written test and Personal Interview. Regular PhD scholars receive fellowship stipends throughout the programme duration, subject to satisfactory academic progress.
