SIIC IIT Kanpur Partners with MoHUA to Empower Startups in Garbage-Free Cities Program

New Delhi: The Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC) at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Kanpur) has entered into a partnership with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) to bolster startups through the Startup Gateway for Garbage-Free Cities 2.0 program. 

Acting as the implementing body for this initiative, SIIC IIT Kanpur has opened applications for startups nationwide to join the upcoming cohort of innovators. 

The selected startups will enjoy substantial advantages, including funding support amounting to INR 20 lakh, a one-year incubation program, business acceleration, additional financial backing, specialized guidance from subject-matter experts in both technical and business aspects, access to cutting-edge infrastructure and advanced research and development facilities, and facilitated connections with potential investors. 

All the participating startups will establish direct collaborations with corporations and urban local bodies (ULBs), paving the way for them to deploy inventive solutions in this domain.

S Ganesh, the officiating director of IIT Kanpur, stated that due to the rising population and urbanization, waste management had become a progressively challenging issue. He also highlighted that IIT Kanpur's strong innovation and incubation ecosystem had been aiding startups in developing technical solutions to tackle a range of societal challenges.

Ankush Sharma, the professor in charge at SIIC, expressed that SIIC, IIT Kanpur, had consistently been proactive in supporting and nurturing advanced technological solutions for worldwide challenges. 

He conveyed that their collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) in the Startup Gateway for Garbage-Free Cities 2.0 program was a testament to their commitment to creating a positive influence on society and the planet.

This initiative is in harmony with the program's mission to expedite the Swachh Bharat Mission by extending crucial support to businesses in a range of thematic areas. These encompass zero landfilling, waste reduction, recycling, plastic waste management, waste segregation, innovative waste purification, real-time waste monitoring, and societal innovations in waste management.
