Union Health Ministry Releases Guidelines for Teaching Activities in Classrooms from Sep 21

The Union Health Ministry has released the guidelines for the conduct of teaching activities in the classrooms. The ministry also shared guidelines for the conduct of skill-based training in workshops and laboratories.

Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Ashwini Kr. Choubey posted a picture of the guidelines issued on his twitter handle on September 13.

Guidelines for Conduct of Teaching Activities in Classrooms

As the schools are about to reopen, it's very important to follow some precautionary measures to minimize the COVID-19 effect. The guidelines issued by the Union Health Ministry mentions that the seating arrangement should be done in such an order that a distance of 6 feet is maintained between chairs, desks, etc. To further maintain a safe social distance, the guideline states that classroom activities should be staggered with separate time slots and classroom premises should be disinfected.

The guideline further mentions following a blended teaching pattern in the academic schedule with the intermix of regular classroom teaching and online teaching/assessments. The teachers and students have to mandatorily wear masks throughout the teaching activities and sharing of items like a notebook, laptop, stationary, etc is interdicted.

Earlier on September 8, the Health Ministry issued an SOP for a partial reopening of schools for students of classes 9 to 12 for taking guidance from their teachers on a voluntary basis. The SOP abides the unlock 4 guidelines of the home ministry that are in effect from September 1. As per the then issued guideline, 50% teaching and non-teaching staff can be called at a time to the schools from September 21.

The guideline also read that the students of classes 9 to 12 may visit the schools but only those which are outside the containment zones. The visit has to be on a voluntary basis for taking the guidance from teachers and students must hold a written consent from their guardians. Students have an option to attend classes either virtually or physically. Read more

Guidelines for Conduct of Skill-Based Training in Workshops/ Laboratories

With the commencement of physical classes, the lab work is also likely to start. The Health Ministry has also issued guidelines for the conduct of training work in workshops and laboratories which primarily includes the disinfecting of equipment before use. A floor area of 4-meter square should be made available for working on equipment or workstation and proper sanitization to be followed before and after using training equipment.
