Unipune: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has officially announced the extension of the thesis submission by 6 months for the PhD and MPhil Scholars considering the pandemic covid-19 circumstances.
Keeping in mind the pandemic situation, the University Grant Commission (UGC) earlier gave a 6-month duration to the PhD and MPhil research scholars of SPPU and other universities to submit their thesis and dissertation. Now the deadline has been extended again till June 2021.
As per the guidelines issued by the deputy registrar of University for PG admissions, the PhD and MPhil scholars who were to submit their thesis till December 31 had been granted an extension till June 30, 2021.
The university has intimated the PhD and MPhil scholars that the thesis must be submitted along with evidence of publication and presentation at 2 conferences which is compulsory for all the research scholars to complete their degree.
However, the SPPU has also notified the scholars that the tenure of the MPhil and PhD fellowship will be the same as 5 years. The Pro-vice Chancellor of SPPU, NS Umarani said that even the conferences where the PhD scholars are supposed to present can be done through the online mode as everything is being conducted online.
Further, she added that most of the fieldwork has been done online without affecting the quality of the work. As for the fellowship tenure, only the time period to submit the thesis has been extended and not the time period in which the PhD and MPhil scholars would get their stipend.
As of now, the SPPU has directed all the research centres and the departments to implement the new changes for the PhD and MPhil Fellowship Programme.
