UP Board is set to launch a dedicated and students-friendly portal to help over 1.25 Crore students from class 9 to class 12 spread across its 28,000 schools. The news was confirmed by UP Board secretary Divyakant Shukla.
Due to ongoing rising COVID cases, the classes so far were being conducted in online mode through radio, Television, and YouTube. Students faced problems related to the same that study material couldn’t be easily accessible as there is no recording facility for future reference and studying.

To address the problem, the UP Board has decided to establish a portal that will help students to get access to study material. The portal will be named ‘e-Gyan Ganga’ which is scheduled to launch by the first week of October.
The Board has been trusted with the designing and various details of the portal. The team will structure the portal in such a way that students will have future access to all study materials, including video clips of lectures being broadcasted on TV channels as well as content being made available through radio and other mediums.
The UP Board states that a student must not feel the burden of studies during these hard times. They believe that there should not be any major impact of the COVID pandemic on students directly or indirectly. The portal is designed for class 9,10, 11, and 12.
At present, the classes or academic programs are being broadcasted on ‘Swayam Prabha’ (Channel number 22) for classes 9 and 11 from 11 am to 1 pm every day. An added feature of these classes is that the program is telecasted again from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm.
Similarly, for classes 10 and 12 the classes are broadcasted in multiple phases from 1 pm to 2 pm, 2.30 pm to 3 pm, 8.30 pm to 5 pm, and 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm every day on Doordarshan. There is a smoothness in conducting these programs but many students faced problems in getting familiar with it.
Many students felt the need for interaction. Also, if a doubt arises in the mind of students, they are helpless as the telecast will be continuously played and there is no future reference for the same.

On September 2, UP Board also took an initiative for the comfort of students as they started career counseling through various toll-free numbers and helplines. The toll-free numbers for the same are 18001805310 and 18001805312. The student counseling was made available between 11 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 4 pm from running from Monday to Friday.
Recently, around 80 percent of students’ parents enrolled in the 1,000-odd secondary schools of Uttar Pradesh Board in Prayagraj district. They said that they are not prepared to send their children to school due to the COVID threat.
