Abiding by the guideliens issued bu Uttarakhand government, most schools in the state reopened on Monday, November 2 for classes 10 and 12 only with 50% attendance. This indicates a low percentage of students attending schools on the first day of schools reopening after an eight-month lockdown.

An official of a Uttrakhand-based school stated that due to prevailing insecurities due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only 20% of students visited their school for offline classes.

Though many premier schools of the state remained closed on November 02. School authorities have informed that the school for classes 10 and 12 is scheduled to reopen after the Diwali festival.

Schools that resumed their classes on Monday precisely followed COVID -19 standard operating procedure. All students compulsorily have to wear face-masks all the time inside the school premises. Everybody has to go through the process of thermal screening.

Following the social distancing norms, prayer assemblies were not conducted by school authorities. Accordingly, Students were allowed to sit on alternate benches only, inside the classroom. School premises were thoroughly sanitized before opening.

Earlier, the Uttarakhand state government after a cabinet meeting permitted schools to reopen for Classes 10 and 12 from November 2 with 50% attendance of students attending schools.

Accordingly, bus services have also been started for students of schools. The bus has also to be sanitized after every trip. However, due to the upsurge in COVID-19 cases in Uttrakhand state, many guardians are reluctant to send their wards to school for offline classes.
