What did you choose amongst NCC, NSS and NSO at IIT Bombay? Can you share your experiences?

PS
Poornima Sahoo Posted On : March 20th, 2023
Studied M.Sc in Applied Statistics & Informatics at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IITB) (Graduated 2019)

My brother was an NCC Senior Under Officersst year and she shared her experience of NCC at IIT

Bombay. She strongly advised many others to go for NCC as it is a very adventurous journey. Some key points related to NCC that might convince you to join it are

  • NCC at IIT Bombay is multifaceted and includes a wide spectrum of activities like drill training, cultural, firing training camp, social campaign, and some training theory. A rich blend of these will ensure an amazing experience.
  • You make new friends, most of the activities require group work and you end up organizing events together.
  • NCC offers a plethora of opportunities to explore. One can go for hikes as well as jungle camps to maximize the experience.
  • The B and C certificates granted by NCC will always be a book for you in your career as it proves your ethical nature.
  • The training campus is very much like the life of a soldier who gets up and is involved in sports, training, and similar stuff.
  • You are allowed to choose the sports, not on the basis of your ability only. You can choose more than one sport also.
  • NCC helps inculcate organizational skills through events like Republic Day wherein you have to coordinate with various stakeholders and present a good show.
  • As a team you have to be involved in organizing various cultural programs and this includes planning for various events, auditioning, preparing scripts, and organizing practices.

Overall, NCC delivers a great experience and there is a lot to learn throughout.

Is it possible to get into MDI Gurgaon with around a 96 percentile in the CAT with the following academic credentials a 76 in class X a 68 in class XII a 61 in graduation?

DS
Deborah Sam Posted On : March 7th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Raipur (Graduated 2019)

MDI Gurgaon will send you a call if you score above the sectional cutoff and 95+ percentile overall in the CAT exam. However, for the final selection, past academics are also considered. If your past academics are not strong, it may decrease your composite score. But, if you get a good percentile in CAT, that can compensate for your past academic performance and increase your chances of converting the call.

Additionally, it is crucial to smartly justify the reason for your average academic performance during the interview. If you were active in extracurricular activities, won competitions, or had any other significant achievements, these will act as positive points for you and help you stand out.

The interview process, which includes Personal Interview (PI), Written Ability Test (WAT), and Group Discussion (GD), has a 30% weightage in the final selection process. Past academics and other factors are given a 15% weightage. CAT percentile has the most significant weightage of 55%.

In summary, you may receive the call at the mentioned percentile, but to convert it, you must prepare well for the interview and present yourself in the best possible way, highlighting your strengths and addressing any weaknesses.

Which college is good for MBA, Nirma University, Symbiosis Pune or Narsee Monjee Mumbai?

AR
Arpit Rane Posted On : May 4th, 2022
studied at Nirma University

NMIMS is the best option among these. The strategic location, excellent placement, and brand value put NMIMS ahead of the other institute mentioned in the question.

NMIMS is located at the financial hub of Mumbai. The campus is just an hour or an hour and a half drive away from commercial and industrial spaces like Bandra Kurla Complex, Navi Mumbai, South Bombay, etc. Due to the locational advantage students can easily attend industrial visits of reputed organizations like TOI, Pepsico, JPMC, etc.

NMIMS Mumbai placements are way ahead of the B-Schools in the same tier. Even with a batch size of 500+, the institute offers an average CTC of INR 23.07 LPA.

Your choice can be based either on the branch or on college.

NIT Surathkal is a better choice than NIT Calicut and NIT Durgapur. As far as placements are concerned, they aren’t any better for Civil or Chemical either. It is always more beneficial to go for branches like ECE, CSE, IT and EEE from a placement point of view.

Here are the placement figures for NIT Durgapur, NIT Calicut and NIT Surathkal-

Parameters

NIT Durgapur Civil (2023)

NIT Durgapur Chemical (2023)

NIT Calicut Civil (2022)

NIT Surathkal

Mining (2022)

Placement %

81.97%

83.33%

87.75%

-

Average Package

7.39 LPA

8.87 LPA

7.36 LPA

11.19 LPA (Majority CTC between 8-12 LPA)

Highest Package

11.4 LPA

20 LPA (Wells Fargo)

In case you have a branch preference, go for that option. With an interest in your branch, you’ll eventually pave a path for yourself. It is possible that you have no particular branch preference.Your ultimate goal might be an MBA, for which you’re simply seeking a B.Tech degree. In that case, choose Mining at NIT Surathkal.

What is the difference between the SSC JE and the IES exams?

AH
Anwasha Hazra Posted On : January 14th, 2021
Electronics and Communication Engineering, NIT Durgapur (2017)

SSC JE is lower than the entry-level position of IES. The designation of IES is Assistant Executive Engineers.

The Pay-Scale of both jobs is as follows.

Job

Pay Scale

Grade Pay

SSC JE Officer

9300-20200

4200

IES Officer

15600-39100

5400

So, IES wins for the salary perks.

  • IES gets an opportunity for promotion very frequently as per the time basis, but SSC JE does not have that frequent promotion opportunity.
  • To compare the work of both the two jobs, IES heads the Engineering department and formulate policies, and JE works on the execution of policies formed by IES.

Difference between SSC JE & IES: (on exam basis)

  • Every year 2500 JE and 400 IES are recruited. (approximately)
  • SSC JE is generally to recruit diploma engineers, and IES recruits engineering degree graduates.
  • SSC JE exam is a bit on the easier side, whereas the IES exam difficulty level is high. This can be concluded from the above recruitment numbers.

Exam Pattern:

SSC JE-

  • Paper-1: MCQs: General Awareness, General Knowledge, and General Engineering
  • Paper-2: Descriptive: General Engineering subjective
  • Total marks- 500

IES-

  • Stage-I: Objective: General Knowledge & Engineering Aptitude
  • Stage-II: Descriptive: Engineering Subjects
  • Stage-III: Personality test
  • Total marks- 700

Clearly, the winning job is of IES because of the above discussed lucrative perks.

Which is better, NIT Surathkal or BITS Pilani?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : September 14th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

Both NIT Suathkal and BITS Pailni are the dream colleges of most engineering aspirants owing to their high reputation and excellence in the field of education. However, NIT is a government college whereas BITS Pilani is a private engineering college that costs much more. Here are a few points you would like to consider before making the final decision

  1. First of all, you need to determine what you are looking for from your degree. If you want to associate yourself with a brand then NIT has better recognition globally. Letters of Recommendation from Surathkal professors are very valuable.
  2. NIT Surathkal has a better location being near the IT hub, Bangalore. The opportunities offered both on and off campus are plentiful.
  3. Infrastructure-wise, NIT Surathkal is better mainly because it has its own private beach. Additionally, hostels are well-built and the facilities are at par with IIT standards.
  4. NIT Surathkal charges very low fees in comparison to BITS.

So, I feel it's better to opt for NIT Surathkal!

What is the difference between FYBA grantable and FYBA non grantable admission vacancies in the colleges of Pune University such as Fergusson College?

SS
Shivani Sharma Posted On : September 24th, 2021
Studying B. Com from Delhi University

One of the primary distinctions between aided and unaided colleges is the availability of funds. A college that receives government aid is known as an aided college, whereas a college that does not receive any funds or aid from the government is known as an unaided college(Private institutes). While the government provides assistance to aided colleges, the government does not provide assistance to unaided colleges.

The government provides grants to aided colleges for a variety of purposes, including infrastructure development and academic activities.

The fee structure is another significant difference between aided and unaided colleges. Unaided colleges charge students high fees, whereas aided colleges only charge government-mandated fees.

Both colleges have the same admissions process, but private colleges have some seats reserved for management quota as well.

What should be the preference order, GMCH Chandigarh, VMMC Delhi, AIIMS other than Delhi, CMC Vellore?

AG
Aditya Gupta Posted On : May 3rd, 2024
MBBS from VMMC Delhi

I chose VMMC Delhi over the other three options (GMCH Chandigarh, AIIMS (other than Delhi) & CMC Vellore) for my MBBS.

According to me, the order of preference should be:

  1. VMMC Delhi
  2. GMCH Chandigarh
  3. AIIMS (other than Delhi)
  4. CMC Vellore

My reasons for this preference order are:

  • VMMC, GMCH, and AIIMS are government colleges with minimal MBBS fees.
  • These three do not have a mandatory bond period
  • VMMC Delhi and GMCH Chandigarh are better than AIIMS (other than Delhi) due to their internal PG reservation system
  • VMMC is a better choice than GMCH because of its location. VMMC is located in Delhi because of which it offers better opportunities. Also, the hospital of VMMC is bigger and VMMC offers more internal PG reservation as compared to GMCH.

Due to these factors, I would suggest you opt for VMMC Delhi for your MBBS course.
