What are the best and worst things about NIT, Calicut?
Having friends studying at NIT Calicut, I am well aware of both the positive and negative aspects of the institution. Let us go through it to give you a proper idea about the institute.
Positive aspects:
- The majority of the faculties are dedicated and highly qualified and experienced. Libraries are well maintained. Academics is the biggest plus point of NITC.
- You can opt for any mess on campus and you are not restricted to the mess of the hostel, where you reside. This helps you deal away from eating the same type of food daily.
- Hostels are right next to the academic block which saves a lot of your time. There is a mini canteen inside the campus where you can get delicious food at affordable prices.
- Climate is very pleasant at Calicut. The campus is picturesque and has a nice ambiance for studies.
- Popular tourist spots like Ooty, Wayanad, Kodaikanal, Mahe, Goa are nearby and serve as good locations for your weekend trips.
- Students rarely fail in exams. If at all someone fails, courses are given during vacation where you can learn concepts, reappear, and clear exams.
Negative aspects:
- Girls hostels have a strict curfew. They should go back to their hostels before 7 PM. Even if there are some genuine reasons you are not allowed to stay out beyond 7 PM.
- First-year students are not allowed to use laptops even though the curriculum needs one.
- Internet facilities at the hostel are very weak. Only BSNL sim has good coverage in the area.
- Hostels have no washing machine facility. There is a laundry service by the college which takes 5 days to a week to deliver back the clothes.
- Summers can be pretty humid, hot, and unpleasant.
Just like the two faces of a coin, NITC has both positive and negative sides. From your perspective, if positives outshine negative aspects do consider joining NIT Calicut.
Why should I prefer DDIT Nadiad over Nirma University?
Dharmsinh Desai University [DDU], located in Nadiad, is one of Gujarat's most prosperous universities. Nirma University is UGC recognized and is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. The university is also a member of the Indian Universities Association (AIU) and the Commonwealth Universities Association. What is the cancellation procedure of an admission at BITS Pilani, Hyderabad campus and the refund of the fee?
The cancellation policy has been kept the same at all three campuses.
You will be shortlisted for admission or put on the waiting list in the Integrated First Degree Programme on the basis of BITSAT. Then you are required to pay the fees in advance for the respective subject.
- If the application form already has specified the respective program you’re willing to pursue, you will have to pay the admission fee i.e 28,050/- and the first-semester tuition fees i.e. 1,13,300/- within the deadline. In case you are still on the waiting list, you will need to only pay the admission fee.
- However, if you’re offered admission but choose to remit by not reporting at the institute on the given date then you can forfeit the total fees, in case the seat remains vacant due to withdrawal. After a deduction of INR 1000, the remaining amount will be refunded.
- If you accept the admission offer and choose to withdraw after reporting at the campus on the due date, you will be able to only withdraw the first semester fees, worth INR 1,13,300.
- Now, due to the slide-up procedures, the seat remaining vacant will be attempted to fill up in the later iterations following the first.
- In case you are on the waiting list until even the final date, the collected fees will be refunded back within the specified date.
- If you choose to pay the admission fee, you cannot subsequently remit from the process that includes “sliding up”, which simply means opting for other options like reassigning a program or choosing a different campus than the one already enrolled at.
- During the remission of fees, you’re not permitted to stipulate any order or conditions, such as changing the preferences, or other relevant factors that come with it. It will be ignored if even mentioned. However, if you’re one of the shortlisted candidates, then the conditions stipulated might be applicable.
The institute, by all means, can refuse admission on varied criteria without assigning further reasons behind the process. Principally, the ultimatum provided by the Vice-Chancellor shall be considered the final decision, regardless of any factor whatsoever.

How do NSIT and DTU campus compare?
DTU has a better campus than NSIT in terms of infrastructure and facilities. DTU campus is well-maintained and even the unused areas are treated as parks and are great spots for taking a break. NSIT has a lot of unused land that is left untamed and resembles a jungle bringing down the overall appearance of the campus. NSIT also is home to insects and snakes which makes the campus environment unsafe.
DTU has a huge auditorium that can house 400+ people while NSIT auditorium is pretty small. DTU has a massive OAT(Open-air theatre) and also a mini-OAT. The classrooms in DTU are designed in an elevated style and most classrooms are fully air-conditioned. DTU canteen is bigger than NSIT's although both colleges have Amul shops. NSIT has poor sports facilities.DTU is home to a huge batch and thus has huge academic blocks although the accommodation facilities are highly lacking.
Overall DTU campus is more appealing and well-maintained than the NSIT campus and also enjoys better connectivity.

After completing BPP from IGNOU, you can opt for bachelors programs offered by the university. The BPP course is for students who wish to pursue a bachelor's degree from IGNOU but doesn’t have the required qualifications.
No, you can’t join other universities after doing BPP from IGNOU. You will have to complete your bachelor's from IGNOU. The BPP course will have no value if you don’t complete your graduation. IGNOU also doesn’t issue certificates for BPP only.
