For how many years are the GATE scores or GATE ranks valid?
The validity of GATE scores or GATE ranks varies depending on the purpose for which they are being used. Here are the different scenarios:
- GATE score for M.Tech/M.E./Ph.D. admissions: GATE scores are valid for three years from the date of announcement of results.
- GATE score for PSU recruitments: Generally, most Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) accept GATE scores that are not older than three years. However, this may vary from PSU to PSU, so candidates are advised to check the respective PSU's recruitment notification for the exact validity period.
- GATE score for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Senior Research Fellowship (SRF): GATE scores are valid for up to three years from the date of announcement of results for JRF/SRF.
It is important to note that GATE scores and GATE ranks are two different things. While GATE scores are used for admissions and recruitment purposes, GATE ranks are used for determining the eligibility for scholarships and fellowships offered by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. The validity of GATE ranks is also three years from the date of announcement of results.
How is life at PUMBA? I am planning to take admission at PUMBA, but how is the faculty? Do lectures happen on time? How's the overall grooming of the student personally?
Life at PUMBA depends upon you. The MBA course is not rigorous or hectic like IIMs. The following are the highlights of the course -
- Your basic schedule for an MBA includes lectures, assignments, and examinations. The remaining day is free for you. It depends on how you utilize that time.
- The institute is student-driven. All the events, fests, and placements are completely organized by students.
- There are six cells responsible for different activities on campus. These cells can hone the managerial, leadership, and organizing skills of the cell members.
- The faculty of the institute is excellent. They have rich experience in industry and teaching. You can seek knowledge and guidance from them.
The best thing is to embrace the college you are studying at and have a sense of responsibility to pay back. It can be in the form of bagging the highest placement, winning competitions, keeping in touch as an alumnus, and others.
This psychology will help you grow more and do the best for college and yourself. You can use your time in PUMBA by investing in your overall development in the way of internships, part-time jobs, or courses.
Should I join CGC Landran? I am very confused, I desperately need reviews from students already studying there.
CGC Landran is a reputed technological institute with an impressive placement record. It is especially good for Computer Science. If you are skilled and have a decent academic record, you can get good placement opportunities through the campus drive. CGC Landran placements highlights show the highest CTC offered is around INR 40 LPA.
Can a fresher with no work experience gain admission to ISB Hyderabad? If yes, then how?
Yes, you can. ISB Hyderabad admission process includes two options for students with less work experience.
Early Entry Option - EEO is a deferred admission option to the ISB PGP program. Recent graduates with less than 24 months of work experience can secure admission through this option. If you are selected, you will be eligible to join the program upon achieving 24 months of work experience.
Young Leaders Programme - YLP helps students get the tools they need to succeed at the work place. The program will also help you in getting admission at ISB PGP. You can apply to YLP during the prefinal or final year of your UG or PG degree. If you are selected to YLP, you need to complete at least 20 months of work experience. You will attend learning weekends through YLP. Once you fulfill the required work experience criteria and the deferment period is done, you can attend ISB.
Which college is better, DSATM or DSU?
DSATM (Dayananda Sagar Academy of Technology and Management) is a constituent college under DSU (Dayananda Sagar University)
According to my friends who are alumni of DSU, Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering (Kumaraswamy Layout) is the best choice under DSU rather than DSATM. Both the colleges have common placements, so it will not be a problem. Also, placement for both institutes takes place at DSCE.
The quality of education and life is better at DSCE. The facilities offered at DSCE include sports, hostels, a well-equipped library, and Yoga & Meditation by Yoga experts.
Overall, the wise choice will be DSCE under DSU.
What is the difference between a grant non grant course at Fergusson College Pune Does it affect the future of a degree Are classes held differently and teaching staff different?
I can tell you my friend’s experience as a non-grant BA student. The fee structure is usually high for Non-Grant. It is so because the faculty are paid from the students' fees and not from the government fund.
The teachers are temporarily hired who often lack proper experience. You will also be not given a choice to select the subjects and will study 6 compulsory subjects. This is a huge setback as you have to study it even though you lack interest in any particular subject.
One of the positive things about the Non-grant course is that lectures are continuous and end at 10:50 AM. After that, you will be free for the rest of the day. On the other hand, students admitted to Grant courses have to stay in college longer.
Due to a small batch in non-grant courses, there are good chances of getting the preferred major in 2nd-year. It is so because the seats for grant and non-grant are equal.
There is a more diverse crowd in non-grant courses and you will find students from all over the country.
How is MANIT Bhopal for MCA?
As a student of MCA at MANIT Bhopal, here is my experience of this college-
From the point of view of an MCA student, this college has nothing special to offer. It is just a normal college. The classes and labs are decent, and the faculty is average. Only a few of the teachers are worthy of admiration. Do not expect much from the faculty.
The hostel facilities aren’t top notch for boys. However, a hostel has been functioning exclusively for PG boys since 2019. For girls, the hostel facilities are decent. There is a lack of friendly interactions among students for different courses.
The placements are decent for MCA. With average technical, and excellent communication skills, you’ll get an offer for sure. But to get placed, you must have secured 60-65% in your 10th, 12th, UG and PG. If you do not fulfill this requirement, your possibility of getting placed will be very low.
Bhopal is very beautiful and enchanting. You’ll learn a lot at MANIT, and these experiences will help you throughout your life.
How are hostels allotted in IIT Hyderabad?
IIT Hyderabad has two accommodation options. Every student is allotted a single room irrespective of their year. Students are allotted double occupancy rooms.
Here is how these accommodation options are assigned to students of various courses
- B.Tech students both boys and girls are usually allotted single rooms in the new permanent hostel
- M.Tech makes students allotted double occupancy rooms in the first year and a single room in the second year
- M.Tech female students are allotted single rooms right from the first year
- Interns are allotted rooms in the temporary hostel and will be sharing 2 in a room.
It’s important to note that this pattern of allotment is not fixed but is usually observed.
How is chemical engineering at IIT Madras?
My sister recently completed her BTech in Chemical Engineering from IIT Madras and being interested in Core only, she shared her experience.
- Curriculum: The courses under Chemical Engineering usually are Transport Phenomena (Mass, Heat & Momentum Transfer), Reaction Engineering, Process Control & Economics. Most of these courses covered obsolete ideas and idealistic scenarios that were hardly industry relevant.
- Professors: The best professors teaching core courses are Prof. Shankar, Raghu, and Niket which one gets by luck only. The best professors teaching electives are Prof. Tangirala, Pushpavanam, and Shankar Narasimhan who teach a lot of high-tech stuff.
- Job prospects: A BTech graduate in Chemical Engineering can expect roles such as Process Engineer in companies like Shell, or a Field Engineer at Schlumberger. Honestly, a UG has fewer opportunities in India and only a higher degree in Chemical Engineering can open better opportunities for you such as R&D roles in companies like HUL, ITC, and Shell.
- Research: This branch is well known for its research culture both Computational and Experimental. Computational research is conducted in fields like process modeling, signals, multivariate data analytics, and process optimization, whereas experimental research at Chemical Engineering Laboratory and Combustion Research Centre is conducted in pyrolysis, catalysis, nanotechnology, fluidized beds & columns, etc.
- Miscellaneous: Chemical Engineering students have a lot of free time on their hands which helps them focus on hobbies, side projects, passions, and non-core interests. They are also free from strenuous lab sessions and assignment deadlines.
Overall, the chemical engineering program at IIT Madras is considered to be of high quality and is a great choice for students interested in the field.
Is Anna University a really good choice for other state students?
Other state students might face some major issues at Anna University. Some of them are:

Language Barrier: Almost everyone in Tamil Nadu converse in their mother tongue. So students from other states might face language issues outside the campus.

Climate: Chennai experiences a hot and humid climate throughout the year. The unbearable heat might be a serious issue for someone from a cooler state.

Food: Although Chennai offers both veg and non-vegetarian, if you are a true North Indian you will definitely miss North Indian food here.

Metropolitan: Life in Chennai is very fast-paced and can seem overwhelming for anyone. Also the pollution levels are high.
Whether Anna University is good for other state students actually depends on their capability to endure the above factors.
