Is there a way to change our course in NIT Trichy after first year?
No, after the first year it is certainly not possible to change branches in NIT Trichy. You will have to stay in the same department which you will be allotted during the JOSAA counseling.
But there is an internal sliding in all NITs after the completion of allotments where you can change your department in a particular branch. For example, if you are assigned Production Engineering, then you can move to Instrumentation and Control Engineering as both of them are under the electronics branch and the syllabus for both of them are similar.
So, what you can do is look up the allotment list for closing ranks of each department and try to estimate whether or not you will be eligible for internal sliding. Usually, the top 5 rankers (opening rank) from each department are eligible for internal sliding. However, this number varies depending on the people applying and the vacancies in a department.
Can I get into KMC Manipal if I score in between 200-300 in the NEET and pay the required amount they ask for?
short answer — no, 200-300 NEET score is not enough for KMC Manipal even with payment. and here's the important bit most people miss:
KMC Manipal doesn't have a traditional management quota. 100% of seats go through MCC Deemed University counselling based purely on NEET merit. you can't just walk in with money and get a seat. the general category management quota cutoff at KMC is around NEET score 590-640+. with 200-300 you won't make it through regular admission.
the only route at 200-300 is the NRI quota — which is a completely different track, costs heavily in USD (~$20,000-25,000/year), and has strict documentation requirements (proof of NRI status for parent/close relative).
please be careful of agents who say they can get you a KMC Manipal MBBS seat with 200-300 marks for a lump sum payment. this is a well-known scam — they take money and disappear. all admissions are centralized through MCC and there's no backdoor. if you're scoring 200-300, focus on improving NEET score or look at state govt colleges where reserved category cutoffs are more accessible.
How are the placements at IIEST, Shibpur?
As a B.Tech Mechanical student at IIEST Shibpur, I can tell you about the placements in my branch.
Several companies recruit mechanical students from IIEST. Here is a list of them-
- Core Companies- CESC, Maruti Suzuki, Bajaj Auto, Tata power, Saint Gobain, MN Dastur, Hindustan Unilever, Vedanta Limited, Hyundai, DCPL, WSP, VikramSolar, TEGA Industries, Tata projects, Elegant Marine, Denso Haryana, Haldia Petrochemicals, Aditya Birla, Eleation, Tata bluScope, JSL, JSW, Britannia, Wood group, Daimler, Tata Steel, etc.
- Consultancy firms- PwC, ZS, Capgemini, Zycus, etc.
- Mass Recruiters- TCS, CGI, Nissan Digital, Infosys, Cognizant, Compro tech, Silfra tech, HCL, Aakash Institute, etc.
61 out of 75 eligible students from B.Tech ME were placed last year. As an ME student, you can’t expect a 7 figure salary through campus placements. Only a handful of companies offer 8 LPA or above. Mass recruiters offer less than 4 LPA.
The placements are decent for my branch at IIEST Shibpur. You can consult some seniors to know about the placements in other branches.
Is IISc equal to IIT?
No, IISc and IIT are not equal. Here are a few core differences between IISc and IIT.
- There are 23 IIT colleges across the country, whereas there’s just one IISC university.
- While you can get admission at IIT after completing high school, IISC provides only one course to students for pursuing right after they complete high school- Bachelor of Science
- IITs primary purpose is to build technical manpower for nation-building whereas IISC focuses on core scientific research or becoming a physicist or scientist.
- IIT graduates are open to studying different fields for example MBA or even starting their own ventures whereas IISC students mostly prepare themselves for research-oriented jobs.
- IIT focuses on the holistic development of its students with many many clubs and groups to pursue hobbies. There are also grand tech and cultural fests like Rendezvous and Techfest, IISc on the other hand has no such events or activities.
- IIT helps you become employable in the job market whereas IISC is for students who have a passion for science and want to pursue research and doctorates after graduation.
- IISC has two additional exams which are KVPY and NEET UG apart from the 2 common GATE and JEE.
All in all, IISc and IIT are miles apart and have many points of difference.
I would like to join ISB (Indian School of Business) Hyderabad for a business analytics course. Is it good? Can I get a good job opportunity through this course?
My answer is based on my sister’s comparison therefore is brutally honest and objective. Some people might still be praising the Business Analytics course but trust me it’s their see efforts to increase its market value only.
I personally am here to convince you against the Business Analytics course. My sister was a student in the same program and even after relentless efforts for 1.5 years, the results were nowhere near expectations. In Fact, she suffered throughout the course and her career was affected a lot in the process. The following points strongly support my opinion and might convince you of the same
Poor quality and substandard faculty who keep changing their rules
- The topics are covered very vaguely and no in-depth insight is offered. An entire topic is covered in 5 lectures that are technically just 10 hours.
- The assignments are not evaluated properly and you don’t receive any feedback from the professors that might encourage you to do better
- No placement assistance is offered to students in ISB Hyderabad
- The batch size is ever-increasing and has made ISB Hyderabad a money-marking Institute only.
- You don’t get to choose one area of Analytics that you want to specialize in and have to study irrelevant subjects that might be of no use to you in the future
- Despite the fees and everything, it’s just a Certificate program and not a degree or diploma
- The Certificate of Business Analytics is not approved by the Government of India and has little value officially
If you are really keen to pursue your career in Business Analytics, choose one area in analytics you want to specialize in and pursue that specific area only. For instance, you can choose a Big data or Machine Learning course and go through their concepts and look for jobs and internships in that area specifically. This is a faster and much more focused way rather than joining the CBA program.
Is it difficult to do PGDCA from IGNOU?
One of my friends had a very bad experience in IGNOU. She applied for CCP which has 6 months of certification but the university allowed 2 years to complete it.
She wanted to complete the course within 6 months so she appeared on all the exams on time. She had to follow up with her professors for project work daily. After she did submit her project, they lost it. After 5-6 months the Delhi branch called to inform her that her project was not good enough. Apart from this episode, she shared more drawbacks she faced:

Out of 8-10 classes only 3 were conducted.

They took 6-7 months to inform her that the project wasn’t good.

She did not receive any books and had to get them personally by visiting the centre 4-5 times

They increased the fees suddenly in the second year
She scored 1st division in CCP but did not get the certificate for the same. So it’s not recommended for you to do PGDCA from IGNOU.
What is the cutoff for geology at Ravenshaw University?
One of my friends studied at Ravenshaw University. According to him, the cut-off always varies between 83%-87%.
There are a few reasons for its variation which he mentioned and I would like to discuss with you:
- There are few seats available as compared to other honors subjects.
- Geology is offered by a few institutes in Odisha and also the competition is tough due to the scope it offers as a subject.
- The subject eligibility criterion for admission into geology is quite relaxed.
- It doesn’t take much into account whether you have maths, biology in your +2 or not. You are still eligible for it.
- The selection is based solely upon your total percentage secured in the +2 boards.

The cut-off may vary yearly but if you really want Geology then work hard and make sure you get a good percent in +2. You can get into one of the few institutes which offer geology.
Is doing an integrated course from IIITM Gwalior worth it?
It depends on what you want to do in the future. If you are interested in pursuing post-doctoral studies, then pursuing 5 years of integrated course from IIITM Gwalior has more pros than cons, thus it's totally worth it. If your aim is to pursue higher studies abroad by clearing GRE then it's better to go for a 4-year course.
IIITM Gwalior is one of the 3 institutions in India with 100% Ph.D. faculties. Ranked 100 for engineering by NIRF in 2020, IITM has overall 262 Integrated seats which are comparatively higher than other reputed institutes.

IIITM Gwalior accepts only JEE Main ranking for the admission process.

Securing the rank within 7213-14442 in JEE Main will fetch admission in IIITM Gwalior.

For general (PWD) category 347-462 bust the ranking in order to secure a seat in B.Tech + M.Tech integrated course.

Aspirants of OBC (Non-creamy layer) must secure a rank between 3,800-6300 for the integrated B.Tech + M.Tech courses and rank of 4737-7903 for B.Tech + MBA Integrated course.

lITM Gwalior is best for integrated courses. But in the end, it's the student's priority which matters. The deciding factor will be the course that you are opting for and future goals.
Which is better academically (preferably CSE and ECE branch), NIT-Manipur, NIT-Meghalaya, NIT-Sikkim, NIT-Nagaland, or Tezpur University?
If your need is a job right after graduation, then NITs certainly are good alternatives. In this scenario, NIT Meghalaya & Nagaland would be safer. But don't expect dream companies on-campus placements. The university of Tezpur can also offer you few IT placements, but TU placements are not comparable to the NITs.
TU will be the best choice amongst those listed if you want to learn, explore, study ECE, CSE fields. The University of Tezpur has great ECE & CSE departments. Both departments are over ten years old. In comparison with NIT-Silchar, TU's CSE faculty & labs better. TU has a strong research orientation, since many science and engineering departments exist, which is not the case for all the NITs listed.
So, if you want placement, go for the NITs. If you want to learn and explore your field then TU is definitely the better choice.

Before choosing an institute, think about what your requirements are. Here are some points that might help you make a decision.
- If your aim is a job in a corporate sector then the NITs will definitely be better options. Opt for either NIT Meghalaya or Nagaland.
- Do not compare their placements with older NITs as it could prove disappointing.
- Tezpur University (TU) is also known to provide good placement opportunities but it is more concentrated to only the CSE department.
- You may get placements from a few IT companies, but overall placements are concerned NITs are definitely better than TU.
- Students who are interested in learning and exploring research fields can opt for TU as well.
- Tezpur University has very good faculty strength in ECE & CSE.
- The two departments are much older too.
- The CSE faculty and labs of TU are better than NIT Silchar.
- TU has got a good research environment as there are multiple departments of Science and Engineering, which is not the case of the mentioned NITs.
Therefore it is suggested that if you aim for an immediate job opportunity, go for NITs. For students who feel confident that they can get a job off campus or are more inclined towards academics and research can go for TU.
