How is Hostel K in Thapar University?

DB
Danish Bose Posted On : August 7th, 2023

This is what Hostel K in Thapar University looks like

Thapar university

The Hostel K in Thapar University is assigned to 2nd-year students. The hostel has provisions for both AC and non-AC rooms. The rooms are well-furnished and spacious.

Here are a few important points regarding the living conditions of the students here

  • The major drawback of this hostel is its mess that serves poor quality food. The mess is run by untrained staff that serves food that tastes pretty bad.
  • The level of hygiene is another problem here. The large number of washrooms makes it difficult to maintain cleanliness and only a few are properly functional.
  • Safety is also not taken care of and most of the corridors have no CCTV cameras. Only the entrance of the hostel has CCTVs.

Overall, Hostel K has poor living conditions and authorities need to take care of the mess facilities here especially.

What should I prefer, a PSU or an M Tech? How is an M Tech at IISC Bangalore? Also, which PSUs recruit fo3r R&D sectors through the GATE?

PP
Pratik Parikh Posted On : July 21st, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

These questions need to be answered step-wise:

  • What should you prefer, a PSU or an M.Tech-  Analyze your strengths and weaknesses and make a decision based on your preferences. If you go by what others say, you might not be satisfied with the result in the future. Some people join the workforce after their matriculation but their hard work makes them reach senior-level management positions. You need to choose between a PSU or an M.Tech, both are equally good options but it is your individual preference that is of significance.
  • How is an M.Tech at IISc Bangalore-  M.Tech from IISc Bangalore is a good choice if you wish to go for your Ph.D.

However, if you do not wish to get into research after your PG and instead plan to join the workforce, I would suggest you to rather go for IIT Bombay or IIT Kharagpur.

  • Which PSUs recruit for R&D sectors through GATE:  You can check the advertisements of a particular company.  Most of the time companies mention the roles for which they require candidates. Go for an M.Tech from an IIT as it will improve your chances of securing a position in the R&D sector. The chances of getting a job in the R&D sector after an M.Tech get high.

Thus, I have made an effort to give you my perspective on this question and share my knowledge to help you make a more informed choice.

Do IIT Guwahati CSE students get similar opportunities for foreign university/company internships compared to IIT Bombay?

AJ
Advait Joshi Posted On : May 3rd, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

My friend was a CS student at IIT Guwahati and he failed to secure a summer internship. According to him, only 3 students from the entire batch of CS second-year students got foreign internship offers. When he asked his friends at IIT Bombay about the same, he came to know that 6 students had got foreign internship offers.

There are a number of reasons why older IITs offer more opportunities than II Guwahati. Let’s explore some of these reasons

  • Unlike IIT Guwahati, older IITs have collaborations with top foreign universities. For example, IIT Kanpur’s SURGE program has tie-ups with Caltech and provides funds for undergraduate internships.
  • Professors are ready to accept students for internships but the lack of funds makes it impossible to secure a paid foreign internship.
  • Another major problem is the lack of focus on research at IIT Guwahati. Students at IIT Bombay have completed great research projects whereas IIT Guwahati students have no research accomplishments up their sleeve. Their CV is extremely lacking and does not fetch good packages.

All in all, the department doesn't encourage foreign internships and older IITs offer way better opportunities compared to IIT Guwahati.

Why did you choose IIM L over FMS Delhi? I heard that FMS is at par with ABC and much better than IIM L.

AJ

IIM Bangalore (2020) | IIT Dhanbad (2016)

While FMS is an excellent business school, it is difficult to say whether it is on par with IIM BACs.

  • Placements: While median/average salary is one way to judge placement quality, considering the roles offered at summer and final placements is a more comprehensive way to get an idea of the quality of placements. In terms of finance and consulting firms visiting the campus for summer and final placements, IIM BAC received more diverse offers. MBB firms have begun to visit IIM L as well.
  • International Reputation: IIMs BAC is one of the world's top business schools. Even if IIML is not widely known in the international community, the fact that it is part of the IIM family lends credibility to its name. FMS does not appear in any international rankings.
  • Student Exchange: IIMB has over 150 outgoing students and over 90 incoming students. The figures at IIML would be lower, but significantly higher than at FMS.
  • Pedagogy: The pedagogy at IIMs is a mix of case studies and class-based theoretical discussions. This provides a more in-depth understanding of various topics.
  • Campus Life: Campus life at IIMs is vibrant, whereas it is almost nonexistent at FMS.
  • Research: The research output of IIMs at BAC and even L is higher than that of FMS. You could, for example, work with a professor to publish a paper or write a case study as part of your course.

Which is better, NIT Trichy (EEE), NIT Surathkal (ECE), or IIIT Allahabad (CSE)?

RA
Rajat Acharya Posted On : May 24th, 2024
Studies at NIT Trichy

EEE from NIT Trichy is the best option. NIT Trichy’s EEE department is well known and is highly demanded by the students. However, choosing your specialisation also depends on your area of interest. If your interest lies in electrical gadgets, their working, power supply and all those related things then only pursue this course. Always remember that you will have to take up this degree for four years and if you do not enjoy it then you will never learn from it. In NIT Trichy, you will get to learn about the subject as well as experience it through the different practical sessions. You will be encouraged to work on your projects and create something new.

B.Tech Electrical from Nirma University (2018)

Various institutes follow different procedures to convert CGPA into Percentage form. Nirma University also follows a unique procedure with which the CGPA scored by students of the University gets converted into the Percentage form.

According to the university's guidelines, the student's performance is judged in terms of CGPA Score. After the CGPA score is allotted to every student, the score gets converted in the form of a percentage based on the following criterion:

Which one is better overall, VIT or BIT Mesra?

AB
Arun Biswas Posted On : April 11th, 2023
Studied at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra

If you are considering between BIT Mesra and VIT, here are some reasons why BIT Mesra is the better option:

  • Reputation: BIT Mesra is a highly reputable engineering college in India, and students work hard to get into it. In contrast, VIT is often considered a backup option by many students.
  • JEE Advanced Selection Ratio: BIT Mesra has a much higher ratio of students selected in JEE Advanced compared to VIT.
  • Infrastructure: BIT Mesra has good infrastructure with well-equipped labs, libraries, and sports facilities. The campus is spread over a large area with greenery all around.
  • Placement Records: BIT Mesra has an excellent track record of placements with top-notch companies visiting the campus every year. The average package offered to students is also higher compared to VIT.
  • Admissions: Admissions to BIT Mesra are based on merit of JEE Mains through JOSAA's counseling, whereas VIT conducts its own entrance exam. The JEE Main rank is considered more prestigious than VITEEE.
  • Faculty: BIT Mesra has a good faculty with experienced professors who are experts in their respective fields.

BIT Mesra is a better option than VIT for pursuing an engineering degree. With a higher selection ratio in JEE Advanced, good infrastructure, excellent placement records, and experienced faculty, BIT Mesra provides a better overall learning experience.
