Visiting companies primarily hire students in three domains: core electrical, non-core (analytics, consultancy), and software engineering/development.
Core electrical companies that recruit include top names like Nestle, Reliance, Tata Power, Philips, Orient, Renew Power, Orange Renewables, Wipro, Bechtel, and Technip. All of these companies offer compensation ranging from 5.5 LPA to 7 LPA CTC. Additionally, a few Japanese companies (Texeg, Fujikura, and others) have started hiring students for overseas positions.
I graduated in 2021, so my insights are based on that timeframe, but I'll also touch on the current scenario. I'll break down my experience into parts: Curriculum, Faculty, Infrastructure, Job Prospects, and some miscellaneous points.
Curriculum: Like many engineering colleges, DTU is not immune to having an outdated syllabus. While they do offer a lot of flexibility with a wide range of electives, the core curriculum still needs significant updates. The good news is that DTU is working on adding new elective courses with updated content, but it’s a long journey for the core subjects to catch up.
Faculty: The faculty members are knowledgeable, but some lack effective teaching skills. Teaching isn't everyone's strong suit, and this is evident here. While they possess great knowledge, their delivery can be inconsistent. Sometimes they treat students like schoolchildren, and other times like research scholars, making it challenging to navigate. This inconsistency is one reason why Electrical Engineering is often viewed as a low-scoring branch at DTU. To excel in subjects, you have to adapt.
Doing a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering at DTU has its perks and challenges. I got into this course because of my JEE rank, and while I didn’t have prior interest, I’ve come to appreciate the curriculum. The faculty is top-notch, with many having advanced degrees, which makes learning a bit easier. The exams are frequent and tough, so be prepared! Internships are a big deal here, with many seniors landing opportunities in various fields. For placements, the stats are impressive—last year’s figures showed that 96% got placed, with companies like Google and Microsoft on the list. The highest package went up to 1.83 crores, which is mind-blowing! Campus life is also vibrant; we have great facilities, and events are happening all the time. If you’re considering DTU for Electrical Engineering, I’d say go for it!
I’m currently in my first year of B.Tech Electrical Engineering at DTU, and I’m really enjoying it! The faculty here is highly qualified, and the student-teacher ratio is pretty good, which helps a lot during studies. We have mid and end-semester exams every three months, and they can be a bit challenging, but that’s part of the experience. I’ve heard from seniors that there are many internship opportunities with great companies like Facebook and Deloitte offering solid stipends. For placements, students from my batch will be eligible in the 7th semester, but last year, around 80% of students got placed with top firms. I plan to pursue my masters after my B.Tech, but I’m keeping my options open! The campus life is lively, especially with events like Invictus and Engifest. Overall, I think DTU is a great choice for engineering.
