Remarks

Positive remarks of the school would be a healthy environment for the students to learn and grow both academically and socially. A negative remark would be the remote location of the college. However this hasn't stopped the college from attaining new heights shattering expectations and earning better positions every year.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum is quite diverse and covers all the necessary topics. Also, the course is frequently updated ensuring that it stays in par with the current scenario. There's a credit system in place here where different subjects are given different credits based on the vastness and their relevance to the course. Credits ar divided among theory subjects and labs. Laboratory equipments are up to date thanks to TEQUIP and lab classes provide valuable practical insight into whatever we learn in the theory classes. There are three main exams that we have to appear for in each semester, viz midsems, minors and endsems. Midsems are of 30 marks, follwed by a 10 mark minor test. The endsems are held for 50 marks. All of these combined with an internal marks of 10 sum up to the 100 marks allotted to each subject.

Placement Experience

4

The overall placement percentage and the average job package of NIT Silchar is quite good. Although situated at a remote area of Assam, it still attracts a ton of companies for the various branches here. The credit for this goes to a strong alumni network and the Training and Placement cell of NIT Silchar. Most of the students get placed in the campus drives held during the 4th year of their B.Tech life. Yes, the college does provide internship opportunities to students in various companies and research institutes. The overall experience is smooth and quite professional. The Training and Placement coordinators arrange for this and the students are selected based on their merit. The stipend offered is also quite reasonable for the various internships.

College Events

4

There are four major events that are held every semester, namely, General Freshers, Tecnoesis, Incandescence and Posua. The General Freshers as the name suggests is the Freshers event of our college. Tecnoesis refers to the technical fest of NIT Silchar forming one of the grandest tech fests of Northeast India where students from various institutes and colleges participate and complete against one another on various technical fronts. Tecnoesis is followed by Incandescence which is the cultural fest of the college. It showcases the various talents lurking not only in NIT Silchar but also in various other institutes of Northeast India. Hosting international artists like Guthrie Govan, Polyphia, etc as well as Indian favorites like Gajendra Verma, Nikita Gandhi, Tejas Menon, etc Incandescence forms one of the biggest cultural events of Northeast India. Posua is the spring fest of NIT Silchar where Northeastern legends like Zubeen Garg, Angarag Mahanta grace the stage and make the students dance to their melodious tunes.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure depends on the annual parental income of the student concerned ensuring that it doesn't become too expensive for him/her. The fee structure is divided into two parts- the admission fees and the hostel fees both of which are paid online, ensuring that there is no middleman present.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are various scholarship opportunities here in NIT Silchar. There's one called Ishan Uday which is a scholarship scheme by Government of India. It grants scholarships to students from the Northeast, whose parental income is less than Rs 4.5 lakh per annum. I've availed a scholarship from State Bank of India which grants me the scholarship based on the marks attained by me per semester.

Campus Life

4

There are tons of extracurricular activities here in silchar. If you're good at anything be it in sports from chess to football, or in computer games, or in music, or dance, or quiz, or debates, or skating, or anything else chances are there exists a club for that. The clubs maintain proper equipments required for the various activities and ensure healthy participation from the students.

Hostel Facilities

4

The hostels are well maintained thanks to the dedicated wardens. Certain hostels are shut down for repairs so as to ensure that proper facilities are available to all students. There's lan connection in the hostels which ensures proper internet facilities to the students. Everything is quite well maintained here at NIT Silchar.

Alumni/Alumna

There's a strong alumni network in the college which greatly helps the placement scenario of the college. The senior students are also quite helpful and will guide you not only through your academics but also other relevant skills that you will be requiring in your life post NIT Silchar.

Admission

In order to get into an NIT, one has to first appear for the JEE mains exam. For me, it was the 2017 JEE mains exam. I didn't have any formal coaching but I still managed to bag a seat in the civil branch of NIT Silchar with my rank. The counselling process was held in Tezpur University where I had to submit the necessary documents. After that I had to pay for the admission fees and the hostel fees online. The fee receipts and all other required documents were then submitted at the CC lab of NIT Silchar where the admission procedure was held. It wasn't that complicated and everything was mostly online except a few manual signatures which saved a lot of time. Once all the required documents had been submitted, I was assigned to my hostel, which was the PG hostel (the hostel for 1st years at NIT Silchar). I was now finally a student of NIT Silchar.

Faculty

4

The faculty of the college is quite good both professionally and socially. They cover the topics required at the right pace and ensure that no topics are left behind before the examinations. They interact with the students and ensure a health learning environment in class which peeks the interest of the students. They're also quite helpful and will help you get through situations you face in your B.Tech life.

See I had the passion for civil since my 10th std. I am really happy about my course . Because there are many job opportunities in govt sector in Assam. I like the teachers of my dept but some are not that friendly . Maybe it depends upon their mood sometimes I don't know really . The civil course is practical it's enjoyable. I would have liked it more if it would had more placement opportunities on campus . Otherwise it's fine

Its a good college. I feel lucky to read on this college. They faculty, the facilities is nice. The environment of the college is very good for education. The management cell of the college is also do grat jobs. But the main problem I have found is placement. According to the other colleges the placement of this college is not so good. If the college can give more placement then it will become a great college. Overall its a great college full of knowledge.
