Remarks

Extracurricular activities and labs should be given more importance and practical education needs to be promoted more, otherwise the experience is quite satisfactory. You will enjoy these 5.5 years in the college and hostel to your fullest.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

Course curriculum comprises of 14 subjects divided into 9 semesters. Total course is of 5.5 years including 1 year of compulsory internship in that college only. At the end of 1, 2.5, 3.5 and 4.5 years there are professional exams conducted by the wbuhs board for all colleges.

Placement Experience

4.5

There is compulsory 1 year internship in this college only where you get more exposure to the clinical scenarios and can gain experience in the medical field. Since dealing with patients is the sole and most important part in this field, internship is of much importance here.

College Events

2

Our college celebrates Alapan, the freshers ceremony in the month of sept or october. Morever there is the annual fest of the college called 'Rhapsody'. There are also film fests, blood donation camps, health camps intercollege quizzings.

Fee Structure And Facilities

It is really cheap here for admission. They take 9000 which includes 1st semester fees and for the other 8 semesters they take 4500 for each. Prof exams take 600 per subject only. Hostel fees are only 12/month.

Fees and Financial Aid

I am not aware of such facilities given by college but there are private organisations to contact if you do deserve scholarship. They will give you your expenses if you provide adequate certificates and reasons.

Campus Life

3.5

There are sports events arranged annually named Arthralgia where you can participate in indoor and outdoor games, labs are a little backdated, needs improvement, extracurricular activities are the area where I think my college lacks a bit.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Hostel facilities are very good. You get good and healthy foods from mess and canteen at a reasonable price. There is drawing room for visitors, games room for indoor games, laundries and open field for outdoor games. Overall it is a good experience.

Alumni/Alumna

Seniors are very much helpful, since the medical education field is such an area where you cannot advance much without the help of seniors, help from seniors or alumni network are a must and you can be sure of obtaining such helps whenever you need.

Admission

I got a decent rank in west bengal medical entrance examination. We were given a 6 day span for admission, my 12th class documents were kept by the college in exchange for a bond, then I submitted my admission fee which was around 9000 (which includes 4500 as 1st semester fee). Then I visited the hostel called Medical College main boys hostel, and was alloted a room there.

Faculty

3.5

Faculties for 1st prof and 2nd prof exams are very good but for the last 2 profs, teaching is not upto the mark. You have to attend wards all by your personal interest and attend patients so that you become fluent in your dealings with patients and gain experience.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is quite planned and great and has a lot of advantages in having a clinical and learning diagnostic approach to various diseases. One area where the curriculum can improve is by having more practical classes rather than theoretical classes. The exams are quite difficult but are quite planned to make you understand the clinician and the passing percentage is 50 percent.

The curriculum spreads over 4.5 years + 1 year of compulsory internship. It includes a total of 19 subjects, these subjects prepare you well for handling patients in real life. AIIMS being an Institute of National Importance, has curated the curriculum very well with lots of focus on practical clinical knowledge. 4.5 years is divided into total 9 semesters and 4 Professional exams. In each exam you have to score more than 50% in each subject to pass. The course academics is very rigid and thorough, so you have to study hard really to come out as a skilled doctor.

MBBS is a very prestigious course, which provides you with a degree and license to practise anywhere in the county as a physician, and also opportunities to presure higher post graduate degrees. Faculty student ratio is variable from dept. to dept. ranging from 1:12 to 1:20 Faculties are highly qualified, most of them having MBBS,MD/MS/DNB(in one or multiple subjects)and even PhD.
