Remarks

NITs are India's best engineering institutes after IITs. NIT Silchar is in top 10 among the NITs and has great infrastructure, research potential, coding environment, placements and alumni network. Major companies visits campus during placement season. Cultural and technical fest are just mind blowing and also campus has a unique natural beauty which cannot be found anywhere else. It has Asia's largest digital library which is of great help. Electronics has always fascinated me since my childhood, i wanted to learn and research more in this field. ECE is only branch in NIT Silchar to have NBA Accreditation. It is also 2nd NIT to do so.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course structure is latest and is same as that of IITs. The syllabus is little bit tough as compared to other engineering colleges as there are a few extra subjects in the first year. Yoga is mandatory and non-evaluatory but passing is mandatory. NSS/NCC is available and it is compulsory to choose any one between NSS and NCC. In terms of labs, almost all labs are having great infrastructures but some are in maintenance phase like first year EC Labs. Library is well equipped with 10-20 MBps Wi-Fi speed. The online resource hub is some of the biggest in the world. Industrial Exposure in NITS start from first year itself in which you might be taken to a few industrial sites nearby like we were taken to a nearby Tea Factory just after a month of joining the institute. The training and placement cell here is most active and at par with standards. They hold sessions where seniors and alumni share their interview and industry experience to the juniors. Also training sessions are there for that. Seniors also hold classes for juniors where they teach coding, electronics and they also host workshops. Faculties here are great, they are so punctual that you will never see them late. They are like trains of japan, not even 15 seconds late. Some teachers are strict but the strict ones give more marks in exam. Some faculties are so cool that you will start having friendship with them. Faculties are from all over India. There are foreign faculties also in CSE department. Anyone will definitely fall in love with the Maths faculty here as they are gods. CSE, ECE, Mathematics, ME, EE are among best faculties in the institute. CSE prof Dalton M. Sir, ECE prof Anupal Deka sir, are great professors according to me and there are many more.

Placement Experience

4

The training and placement cell is the gem of the college. It organizes training sessions, workshops, experience sharing sessions, mock sessions etc. College has great alumni network. Placement in CSE, and ECE is 100%. While Civil, mechanical and electrical also have good placement rate. Highest package in 2018 batch was about 40 lpa and this year data is not available right now. Companies like Nokia, Samsung, Goldman Sachs, Amazon, Flipkart, IBM, Accenture, PWD, Deloitte, Infosys, Wipro, TATA steel, TATA motors, TCS, Reliance etc along with PSUs visit every year.

College Events

4

Campus life is amazing and filled with green natural sceneries. The campus is spread in 650 Acres and there are a lot beautiful mountains visible on three sides. There are a lot of lakes and gardens. The life is peaceful. Now, coming to fests in NIT Silchar, it is like enjoying your dream. Example if you are tech geeky then the techno-management fest Tecnoesis will blow your mind. There are more events organized in the campus that one can possibly view even if you contribute your whole time to this. There are a lot! You can participate in making autonomous bots and enjoy different concepts and most important thing - you will learn. Incandescence is cultural fest in which all musical and cultural events takes place. Celebrities also perform like this year singer Md. Irfan, Darshan Rawal, Actor-Shivankit Parihar etc. There are a lot of management and sports fests also. The college organizes a lot of fests. One fest is not over and the next one will be announced.

Campus Life

3.5

The infrastructure of NITS is second best in whole north-east after IIT Guwahati. The academic building is state of the art architectural building. Its APJ Abdul Kalam digital Library is largest in entire Asia. Library's wi-fi speed is easily 10-20 MBPS. There are enough books to be lend by 4000 students easily. E-resources are also great which is accessed by Library's wi-fi. Sports complex is big enough to host a event with 7,000 peoples. There are two proper stadiums - football and cricket. Apart from that, tennis court, volleyball, basketball courts are well maintained. There is also a student activity center where all indoor games and badminton is played. Skating club is also present. There are no swimming pools. NIT silchar is famous for its lab. There are more labs than classes. They have numerous of labs in a department and all are well equipped and maintained. A few labs like first year ECE lab currently has problem of defective instruments but they are frequently replaced by new ones.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

There are 19 hostels in the campus including girls and boys. There are a few more girls hostel under construction. There are sufficient number of seats. Actually far more than sufficient. The hostels are alloted year wise. so, first year live in a seperate hostel. All hostel are having good infrastructure. LAN ports are provided in each rooms. There are 2,3 and single seater rooms, depending upon your year and marks they are alloted. Most of the hostel food is good except sometime you may hear insects found in snacks or something like that. But these incidents are now a days normal in colleges in India(sad reality) and trust me IITs and IIMs are no different than this. Electricity is good 24 Hrs. some hostels have gone solar dependent. But anyway, water, electricity, sanitation is good everywhere. It is better than far more higher ranked NITs.

See I had the passion for civil since my 10th std. I am really happy about my course . Because there are many job opportunities in govt sector in Assam. I like the teachers of my dept but some are not that friendly . Maybe it depends upon their mood sometimes I don't know really . The civil course is practical it's enjoyable. I would have liked it more if it would had more placement opportunities on campus . Otherwise it's fine

Its a good college. I feel lucky to read on this college. They faculty, the facilities is nice. The environment of the college is very good for education. The management cell of the college is also do grat jobs. But the main problem I have found is placement. According to the other colleges the placement of this college is not so good. If the college can give more placement then it will become a great college. Overall its a great college full of knowledge.
