GREAT ACADEMICS ALONG WITH COMPLETE ENJOYMENT OF COLLEGE LIFE.
St, Xavier's College has its own fame. The name itself says how prestigious this institution is. It's one of the top colleges of Jharkhand. My parents specially enrolled me in this college because of the discipline. The way students behave, the positive environment all of these contribute to the overall development of a student. The teachers and professors are the bests here. The cultural events, academics, sports, this college is best in everything. It's a great journey here. I'm surely going to miss this.
Campus Placement is available but only for selected courses. Till now I haven't faced any internships but there's a lot of career opportunities after graduating with Hons. in geology. This is the course with minimum competition in India and it has better opportunities abroad especially in gulf countries.
Entrance Exam is taken after taking merit into account.
St. Xavier's is famous for its cultural events. There is an annual fest conducted for 3 days. The first day is reserved as ethnic day, the second day as western day and the third day is what everyone waits for, it's the rock band day. There's press coverage and the function is grand. Apart from this, there are so many sports events which take place and there are so many clubs such as the drama club " Abhivyakti ", Rotaract club and many other clubs. The sports events are grand too, whether we talk about the Basketball game or football game or many other games. There are three different library sections and one Central library where every student may go and search for the book on the computer and issue it. The library system is a bit not nice because we don't get to choose books.
COURSE CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
BSc Hons in Geology, this course covers all topics from the lithosphere to the core of the earth. This department has 60 seats per year, 3 classrooms, and 2 labs. This course is interesting and offers a promising future to the students who want to pursue their career in Earth Sciences. The faculty members are one of the best. They are highly qualified and liberal. Each and every professor is really helping and supporting. They teach in a really catching manner and simplify things so that everyone can understand. There is one mid sem of 10 marks for each paper and semester wise exams. The question paper is strict to the syllabus and who has paid attention in class will surely pass. We are taken on field trips to practically cover everything we've been studying theoretically. Overall this is really a great course and this department provides everything a student of this course would require.
After fulfilling certain criteria i.e. if you have more than 50% then you'll be shortlisted for a written test and on that basis, you'll be admitted if you not only pass it but also score well since there is a lot of competition. When I gave the test there were 500 students appearing for 60 seats. Hence prepare well.
LOAN/ SCHOLARSHIP PROVISIONS
The fee structure for general is around 27000, but for reserved students, I mean the students who belong to OBC, SC, or ST category they'll have to pay a bit less. Recently the fees us reduced to 25000, as I belong to the OBC category I had to pay 23000. Hence annually paying this much is completely reasonable.
