Entrance Preview

No entrance exam, which is one of the reasons I chose it. The admissions process is long and arduous. I had to run around to different departments with different forms, but having no exam made it easier. There was no formal interview at time of admission.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The courses were surprisingly good. All courses were done as independent study. At the beginning of each semester you receive course materials, which are very complete, and study independently. At the end of the semester you appear before an invigilator to take an exam on the course, which is the entirety of your grade. For some courses there are also essays, however, I did not take any of those courses.

Internships Opportunities

No, they do not, as far as I am aware. I never had any internship nor was any required to complete the course.

Placement Experience

2.5

I don't know what to say, this question is not applicable. TGOU is an correspondence college, so they didn't really have campus events. However, my degree is valid. I gained employment at American Express shortly after graduation and basically doubled my income prior to obtaining a degree with this university.

College Events

2.5

As stated before, the college is done by correspondence with the exception of exams, so therefore you have the freedom to celebrate any events at your home or in your community, the college did not host any. It is not a college for those seeking collegiate experience, but it is good for those who need a degree without fuss.

Fee Structure And Facilities

It is affordable, which is the major draw for TGOU. They cut expenses by being independent study. I graduated in 2011 and my degree cost about 14000 rupees. Looking at the current website it is now 18125 plus 150 per exam sitting fee. Also they've added a thesis, which I did not have to complete during my days.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

I did not have to stay in a hostel or eat mess food, as I did my studies by correspondence. Therefore the costs of living would be similar during study as your current situation. Many people complete degrees through TGOU while working full time, myself included.

Exam Structure

Exams took place at a scheduled time and place. You come and sit in a classroom and were monitored while you took a timed test. Some were very easy. But there were issues. For example one course a friend of mine took that you could opt to take in Hindi or in English only had Hindi exam papers. He answered the essays in English in order to complete the class in English.

Faculty

2.5

As each course is independent study, we did not have a normal student/professor relationship. However, if one assumes that the courses were compiled by the faculty I'd say that they were very competent. One of the ways TGOU keeps their costs so low is by not having the normal faculty/student dynamic.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Ever since I was a kid I was always interested in studying history. Infact it was my favourite thing to study. I took up this course because It's fun to study history. As an aspirant taking up history helps me to be more aware of the dates and names for the competitive exams. I think there are no improvements or changes to be made in this course as the lectures teaches so well. If you are taking history as your honors then I suggest you to study everyday and not wait for the last moment as this course is very vast and not easy for one night preparation

Course Curriculum Overview:

I'm not sure why I chose this course but yeah I did.....what I am able to tell you is that I was quite a little pushed by people saying that this course would be more important incase I wanted to pursue further studies outside or wanted to appear for civil services .some of the improvements I would like to bring for this curriculum is it would have been better if we were made to study more practically.. maybe bringing some practical learning woul have helped rather than only studying in theory. It would also have been better if the teaching was based on how he/ she wanted the students would have made proper connection rather than being too serious at all times.and I would also have loved it if they would not ask random questions to Radom studies albeit their reluctance I know you want to engage but it makes the students not want to attend the class..... rather you can ask questions and the ones interested can answer you or you can continue on with your class after clarifying your answe

Remarks:

It's packed with the best faculty and also it's the nearest college from where I stay. It has an amazing environment and noise pollution free. It's easy to find transportation also. The college has a lot of extra curriculum activities and provides even counseling. I took up Sociology because I grew up believing I would become a social worker. The college has also produced a good number of toppers and is considered one amongst the most cleanest college in Kohima.
